After the joy of success, it is time for the baccalaureate graduates to get down to business. Pre-registrations for new baccalaureate holders will begin tomorrow, July 23, announced the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. A process to be carried out exclusively online, which will continue until July 27.
The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has placed the 2024/2025 academic year under the theme “Zero paper”. Access to higher education now goes through a digital platform dedicated to this purpose. High school graduates should follow the instructions of the ministerial circular on registration and orientation for the academic year, signed on July 14 by the supervising minister, Kamel Baddari, and those of the student guide to formulate their wishes online.
Using the user number and password contained in the baccalaureate transcript, high school graduates access a platform where the different courses are offered to them. They must choose between 6 and 10 courses, according to a preference ranking.
It should be noted that the registration procedure schedule was unveiled by the head of the sector last week. Thus, the pre-registration period is set between July 23 and 27. However, high school graduates can modify their wish list during the period between July 28 and 30, before confirming the pre-registration.
The results of the orientations are expected for August 6, 2024. Between August 10 and 15, new students must confirm their final registration by paying the registration fees. High school graduates who have not obtained the courses they want can once again submit a wish list in a second session, scheduled for the period between August 7 and 9, while the results of the orientation are scheduled for August 12. The days of August 14 and 15 are devoted to the payment of fees, which formalize the registration of the high school graduate concerned by this procedure.
For university works, high school graduates must pay transportation costs, make a request for university accommodation, during the period between August 10 and 15, via access to the digital platform dedicated to its services, and this according to the date mentioned on the orientation sheet. The same procedure is set between August 16 and 17 for high school graduates who have confirmed their orientation in the second session. The study of university accommodation requests is scheduled between August 18 and 22 while the payment of accommodation fees is scheduled during the period between August 23 and 25.
Applications for the university scholarship will be submitted via the “Progress” platform between 1er and September 15. The study of applications is scheduled between September 16 and 30, while the appeal period for rejected applications is scheduled between September 1er and October 3.
What criteria for the orientation of new graduates?
The ministry states in its circular that the orientation of new students is based on four criteria: the course and the results obtained according to the general average of the baccalaureate or the weighted average calculated first. The wishes expressed by the baccalaureate holder come in second position, followed by the reception capacities of the university establishments and the geographical areas.
The weighted average is the result of calculating the general average of the baccalaureate, affected by a coefficient to which are added the marks obtained in the essential subjects. The ministry has drawn up an indicative table of the admission method in its circular.
Thus, for example, to access the natural and life sciences, geology, health sciences (pharmacy), medical sciences and veterinary sciences courses, the weighted average is calculated according to the general average of the baccalaureate squared + the mark in natural sciences, all divided by three, and this for baccalaureate holders from the experimental sciences and mathematics course. Baccalaureate holders from the technical mathematics course access it by the general average obtained in the baccalaureate.
Access to certain courses such as human and social sciences, law, political sciences, management sciences, commercial sciences, physical and sporting sciences and activities, languages (Arabic, Turkish, Chinese, Russian, Amazigh) and the arts is based on the general average obtained in the baccalaureate.
On the other hand, access to science and technology, material sciences, natural and life sciences, mathematics and computer science, geology, health sciences, literature and foreign languages (French, Spanish, German, English, Italian and translation), architecture, urban planning and urban professions, medical and veterinary sciences is based on the weighted average according to the method mentioned in the table drawn up in the circular, and which differs from one sector to another.
If the calculated weighted average of a high school graduate is lower than the minimum required weighted average, he or she is guided according to the general average obtained in the baccalaureate, provided that it is higher than the minimum required weighted average.
Access to ENS is conditional
Access to the medical, dental and pharmacy sectors is also based on a national ranking of the wishes of high school graduates, on the basis of which a minimum average is set after computer processing of the wish forms. Holders of a foreign baccalaureate must pass a language exam to access the medical science sectors and higher education establishments.
Access to the ENS is, in addition to the modalities mentioned, conditioned by physical and intellectual skills required to become a teacher. An interview before a committee is also planned within the establishment to which the candidate is directed.
A medical certificate of good health is required for high school graduates wishing to join the physical and sports sciences and activities program. High school graduates who are elite athletes and are recognized as such by the Ministry of Youth and Sports have access to this program without a minimum average requirement.
The ministry informs that all orientation procedures are done exclusively via the digital platform. An application called “Tawjih” is launched for this purpose.
