The president of the National Union of Magistrates (SNM), Laidi Aoudeche, has decided to step down, announcing this Friday, to everyone’s surprise, his resignation without explaining the reasons behind his decision.
This Saturday, the executive office of the National Union of Magistrates (SNM) endorsed the president’s decision. In a press release made public, the executive office of the SNM announces that the first vice-president Hichem Desdous will act as interim president until the election of a new president. The date of the extraordinary general meeting will be set later, said the same source.
According to the union press release, “in accordance with the provisions of the SNM statute, and in particular articles 34, 56 and 57, the executive office has decided to accept the resignation of Mr. Aoudeche. This will be subject to confirmation at the next extraordinary general meeting, the date of which will be set at a later date. »
Hichem Desdous, first vice-president and general secretary, will be responsible for acting in the interim and managing the day-to-day affairs of the union. The executive office also decided to launch the necessary preparations for holding the elective general assembly in order to appoint the new president of the SNM.
It should be noted that the resigning president called for an extraordinary general meeting to be held on November 29, in order to rule on his decision and elect the union representative within the Superior Council of the Judiciary.
His announcement was published on the union’s official page on Facebook, where he invited all members to participate in this extraordinary general assembly to “decide on his desire to withdraw and resign, and take the necessary legal measures”, in accordance with the provisions of the statutes of the National Union of Magistrates.
This resignation occurs in a very specific context. The justice sector has, in recent years, undergone a series of major reforms, including in particular the new organic bill on the status of magistrates, in preparation, recently adopted by the Council of Ministers.
The approval of this project comes in application of the commitment made by the President of the Republic to the magistrates, during the opening ceremony of the 2025-2026 judicial year. The project in progress takes into account the directions of the Head of State, namely “granting capital importance to the social situation of magistrates, particularly in terms of access to retirement and housing” and the need, before taking office, to “subject the newly qualified magistrate to a practical internship, the duration of which will be fixed by the regulations governing the justice sector”.
During the same ceremony, the President of the Republic instructed the government to adopt the system of specialized judicial centers, as the framework best suited to judicial practice, allowing the magistrate to benefit from high-level practical training with a view to promoting justice.
