Democrats raise millions in hours after Biden withdraws
The Democratic online fundraising platform ActBlue says it raised US$27.5 million ($41 million) in small-dollar donations in the five hours after US President Joe Biden withdrew from the race and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris.
The Biden-Harris campaign this morning formally amended filings with the Federal Election Commission to rename its principal committee and declare Harris a candidate for president.
The move means that should she remain on the ticket for the general election, according to the Campaign Legal Centre, Harris could assume control of the Biden-Harris campaign account, which had nearly US$96 million ($143.3 million) cash in hand at the end of June.
