Authorizations given to three operators

Import of 10,000 buses

The Prime Minister, Sifi Ghrieb, chaired, this Thursday, in Chlef, the signing ceremony of conventions relating to the official launch of the operation to import 10,000 new buses, in accordance with the specifications established by the interministerial commission (Ministry of Industry and Ministry of the Interior, Local Authorities and Transport). An approach which is part of the implementation of the measures decided by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, for the importation of 10,000 new buses and the removal from the national fleet of all obsolete passenger transport buses with more than 25 years of service to replace them with new vehicles, reports the APS. Import authorizations were given to three national operators. These are the Industrial and Vehicle Development Company (EDIV), under the Ministry of National Defense, the Tirsam company, based in Batna, and Peng Pu Algérie, based in Chlef and specializing in the assembly of trucks and buses of the South Korean brand Daewoo, according to the TSA media. The ceremony was held at the headquarters of the wilaya of Chlef, in the presence of the Minister of the Interior and Transport, Saïd Sayoud, and the Minister of Industry, Yahia Bachir. The Prime Minister clarified that
“we wanted this operation to first benefit local manufacturers to subsequently guarantee the supply chain with regard to spare parts, maintenance and overall after-sales service.” According to an official from the Ministry of Industry, Mohamed Mostefai, “if there were other operators, they too would have had import authorizations”, stressing that the three selected companies are currently the only ones to produce buses and trucks in Algeria.
