In view of the dramatic scale of road accidents, the National El Aman association for consumer protection challenged the Minister of Transport on Wednesday, on the authorization to import new buses, hailed as a “long awaited” measure which can be sufficient. This was indicated by a press release from the association.
“The El Aman association greets the decision of the public authorities to authorize the importation of new buss, a long awaited by citizens and transport operators,” first stressed the association, chaired by Hacène Menouar first. And to note however: “Beyond the only technical aspect linked to import, El Aman officially seized the Minister of Transport, with the aim of recalling that the law of consumers-user to security, health, comfort, information and dignity must remain an absolute priority”, detailed the press release.
Behind this arrest, El Aman traces a roadmap inspired by “international” standards, with the ambition to transform in depth a sector long criticized for its lack of modernization and its shortcomings in terms of security.
In this context, the association proposed to impose modern safety equipment aboard all vehicles: chronotachygraphs to monitor driving times, compulsory belts, anti-fire systems or surveillance cameras. These devices are not a luxury, but a vital necessity, according to El Aman.
In parallel, it called for the strengthening of technical and organizational controls, not only in road stations but also along the way, thanks to mobile brigades. Too often, users are going up in dilapidated vehicles without real guarantee of reliability, alerted the association.
El Aman also emphasized the experience lived by the passenger, asking for concrete improvements: cleanliness of buses, respect for schedules, clear and accessible information, but also adequate dress for staff.
In the same vein, the association also suggested the creation of a digital platform allowing users to consult the journeys, check the schedules in real time and easily submit their complaints. The citizen must be informed and heard. Transportation must enter the era of transparency and modernity, pleaded the association.
Another strong axis of the process concerns the qualifying training of drivers and recipients. According to El Aman, the latter should follow modules in first aid, basic mechanics, road regulations, but also in ethics and respect for users.
Finally, the association highlighted the accessibility imperative for people with reduced mobility (PMR). In this regard, it recommended that it compulsory a minimal bus quota suitable for each operator. Public transport must be inclusive.
