Demands to curb the rise in drugs

Study day on the amendments to law 23-05d

Started the day before yesterday Thursday at the National Army Circle (CNA) of Beni-Messous in Algiers, the work of the Study Day on the main amendments contained in law 23-05 relating to the prevention and fight against the use and trafficking of narcotics and psychotropic substances, attracted a large crowd of participants, notably experts and legal experts alongside the Ministers of Justice and Keeper of the Seals, Abderrachid Tabi and of Health, Abdelhak Saihi, in the presence of the first president of the Supreme Court, the president of the Council of State, the director general of the National Office for the Fight against Drugs and Drug Addiction (Onlcdt) and the wali of Algiers. The participants pleaded , at the end of this Study Day on the scourge of drugs, in favor of an involvement and a strengthening of the important role played by the crucial factor of communication through the media, in particular in the adjustable support of the fight against drug use and trafficking, where the imperative of raising awareness of the risks and negative effects of drugs on the individual and society has been clearly expressed.
Given the great threat that drugs represent to the stability and security of civil societies and because of their dangers to the physical and moral health of individuals, particularly young people, the participants in the work of the Study Day, opened the day before yesterday in Algiers, also called for adequate health care for drug addicts and their social reintegration to deal with the spread of drugs. Also pleading for “the promotion of the role of the family, the mosque, the school, sports and cultural spaces in the prevention of drug addiction, to confer the status of judicial police to the Customs services, to encourage citizens to denounce crimes of illicit drug trafficking, to strengthen cooperation and coordination between the different actors in the prevention and repression of the use of narcotics and psychotropic substances”, the participants in the Study Day on the scourges of drugs, raised several points allowing a more effective contribution to the fight against drugs. In his plea, the Director General of the National Office for the Fight against Drugs and Drug Addiction (ONLCDT), Mazouni Farid, assured and reassured that
“Algeria spares no effort in the fight against all social scourges, led by narcotics, and this, based on its commitment to protecting Algerian society and preserving its security and stability,” observed the representative of ONLCDT Mazouni Farid.
He noted, however, an increase in drug consumption throughout the world and in Algeria. For her part, the President of the Court of Algiers, Guellati Douniazed, warned, taking into account judicial statistics, of the proliferation of the phenomenon of drug use and trafficking.
