Already established, energy cooperation between Algeria and Oman is strengthening and should be further consolidated and diversified given the growing interest of Omani companies in investing in Algeria.
The Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, received, yesterday at the minister’s headquarters, the Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman, Saif Rachedi Al Badai, the energy department said in a press release, noting that the two parties took stock of bilateral cooperation and the prospects for its strengthening in the energy and mining sector.
Affirming that this meeting “is part of the continuing dynamic of the fraternal and excellent relations which unite Algeria and the Sultanate of Oman, particularly in the hydrocarbon and mining sectors”, the energy department indicated that the two parties discussed the prospects of strengthening the partnership, “in light of the growing interest shown by Omani companies for investment in the Algerian market”, like the company Abraj Energy Services, of the group Suhail Bahwan Holding, and the Mohammed Al Barwani Holding group through its subsidiary Petrogas, in addition to other Omani companies operating in the hydrocarbons and mining sectors.
The two parties also reviewed the progress of the implementation of the two study agreements signed between the National Agency for the Development of Hydrocarbon Resources (ALNAFT) and the Petrogas company.
These agreements relate, it should be noted, to the evaluation of the energy potential of two deposits located in the Touggourt and Berkine basins, signed on the sidelines of the 13th edition of the Exhibition and Conference on energy and hydrogen for Africa and the Mediterranean Basin “NAPEC 2025” in Oran. The studies aim to identify new opportunities for the valorization of hydrocarbon resources, while strengthening cooperation between Algeria and the Sultanate of Oman in the field of energy research and development.
The meeting of the Minister of Hydrocarbons and the Ambassador of Oman also focused on opportunities for cooperation and partnership in the hydrocarbon sector, particularly in the areas of exploration, development of fields, drilling services and oil and gas industries, the ministry added.
The possibilities of expanding cooperation in the mining sector, particularly in the exploitation and processing of phosphate, the production of phosphoric acid and phosphate fertilizers, according to the Minister of Hydrocarbons, affirming that these areas constitute an essential axis in Algeria’s efforts to strengthen its processing industries.
Arkab thus underlined Algeria’s strategy, in accordance with the guidelines of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, aiming to continue “its efforts to strengthen economic cooperation with the Sultanate of Oman and deepen existing partnerships in the sectors of hydrocarbons, mines and processing industries, serving the common interests of the two brotherly countries.”
The desire to strengthen the partnership between the two parties in the energy sector was on the agenda of a similar meeting between the two parties last month.
Arkab then reaffirmed Algeria’s desire to strengthen energy partnerships with Oman, by inviting Omani companies to seize the opportunities offered by the Algerian energy sector. The ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to Algeria was accompanied by a delegation from the company Abraj Energy Services, led by its chairman of the board of directors, Ayad bin Ali Al Balushi.
