Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb.
The 4e Edition of the intra-African trade fair is the appropriate opportunity to expose potential and especially production capacities in various fields, especially industrialists. It is in this perspective that an African automotive fair is organized on the sidelines of the 4e Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF) 2025.
Officially launching the opening of the work of the African automotive fair, as well as the work of the “African automotive forum”, the acting Prime Minister, Sifi Ghrieb, said that the consecration of an entire event in the automotive sector ” is a message from the organizers on the development of the vehicle industry of all kinds on the continent “and” continuous progress to master the entire value chain “.
In a speech read on his behalf by the Minister of Foreign Trade and the promotion of exports, Kamel Rezig, Ghrieb said that “This African automotive fair is in line with the continental dynamic which aims to strengthen value chains by exploiting the potentials available to the continent, such as natural resources, expertise and investments, thus making it possible to concretize the ambition of continental integration in this sector by establishing an industrial value in value, creative of wealth”.
This fair, which is experiencing a “strong and qualitative” participation of economic consortia and African and global companies specializing in the automotive industry, components and spare parts, constitutes, according to the acting Prime Minister and Minister of Industry, “an ideal space to discover the potential of Africa and an opportunity to establish business, commerce and investment relations between different players and speakers around the world”. This, he noted, through the different B2Bs that will be organized.
An “African automotive forum” is also on the program and will be led by international experts, as well as business leaders, with a view to debating the future of the automotive industry on the African continent.
Mechanical industries: Algeria among pioneers
The acting Prime Minister also underlined the development that the mechanical industry recorded at the continent level. “An industrial map in Africa is emerging and deserves attention,” said Ghrieb, stressing the fact that Algeria is positioned alongside other countries among pioneers.
The country occupies ” A distinguished place in several categories of vehicles, including heavy machines intended for public works, agriculture and industry, with considerable national integration rates reaching 70 % “, according to GHRIEB clarifications, claiming that these results are the fruit of” industrial policies that Algeria has adopted for decades, placing the mechanical sector as one of its most important pillars “. He also pointed out the implementation by Algeria in the past five years, of “an ambitious strategy in the field of the automotive industry”. The latter aims to promote the manufacturing sector of light vehicles within the value chain.
This strategy, said Ghrieb, “is based on the creation of investments with full production channels capable of reaching an integration rate of at least 30%”. This, based on locally produced components, through a network of national and foreign subcontractors and equipment manufacturers, which the State supports in the improvement of their technical, technological, administrative and financial skills, as well as in obtaining approval. Affirming that particular importance is given within the framework of this vision for research and innovation, he reported the initiative of Algeria which consists in the creation of a council of experts bringing together experts in the field of the vehicle industry.
The acting Prime Minister has not failed to underline the importance of the IATF, which is an appropriate opportunity to exhibit the potential of the continent in various fields. “This event is not only a meeting for trade, but a space to build bridges of sustainable cooperation, exchange experiences and launch common initiatives that help meet the challenges of African development and transform them into real opportunities for growth and prosperity,” said Ghrieb.
