Boumerdès city ring road opens for business

The Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, Lakhdar Rekhroukh, proceeded the day before yesterday to the inauguration of the second section of the ring road of the city of Boumerdes. This second section with a length of nine (9) KM is added to a first of 8 KM already inaugurated recently.
It should be noted that the entry into service of this ring road of nearly 17 KM is part of the celebration of the 62nd anniversary of independence and the youth festival.
At the end of the inauguration ceremony, the minister indicated that the State has made significant investments in the construction and maintenance of roads in this wilaya to ensure the smooth flow of travel, particularly during the summer season.
He added that “despite the high cost of its implementation, this vital project is capable of facilitating and making the use of the road in general safer.”
For her part, the director of public works of the wilaya of Boumerdès, Feriel Sayoud specified in her presentation on the sector that “the ring road of the city of Boumerdès is one of the largest infrastructure projects in the wilaya”. “This 17 KM project includes engineering structures and main interchanges,” she said.
This project connects the regions of El Kerma and Sghirate to the suburbs of the city of Boumerdès, via the RN 24, the region of El Louz and the commune of Korso by the wilaya road (CW) 146 towards the city of Tizi-Ouzou and the RN 5.
The same speaker recalled that this ring road will contribute to solving the current traffic problems in the city, while opening up new development prospects for it and the surrounding regions, and avoiding the road linking the city of Boumerdes to the RN 5 via the commune of Tidjellabine. It will also offer other options towards the south-east of the wilaya or towards the wilayas of Tizi Ouzou, Bouira and Algiers, by helping to open up the regions located along the road.
At the start of his visit to the wilaya, the minister listened to a presentation on the sector in the wilaya, before proceeding with the inspection and commissioning of the 2nd section of the Boumerdès city bypass project.
In the commune of Khemis El Khechna, the minister launched work on the project to double the RN 29, linking this commune to the border of the wilaya of Blida over a distance of 6 km.
