Everyone is now actively discussing today’s extraordinary session of the
UN Security Council, convened because of yesterday’s Russian strikes on civilians in Ukraine and the targeted destruction of the Ohmatdyt children’s hospital.
In numerous interviews, some “experts” and politicians talk about the importance of this session and that it will demonstrate unity in support of Ukraine. Others insist on the uselessness of such sessions, claiming that any resolution put forward at the Security Council will be blocked by Russia, which will only “bring the impotent UN closer to its demise,” saying that a new organization must be created to ensure peace.
However, I have not heard a single statement that Russia has illegally usurped the USSR’s place in the United Nations and has no right to be on the Security Council in particular and the UN in general.
Ukraine at the extraordinary session of the Security Council is obliged to publicly declare the need to expel Russia from the illegally occupied place of the USSR in the UN, having initiated the relevant procedure. Moreover, even the President of the UN General Assembly Dennis Francis stated that he had not seen a single document confirming Russia’s legal right to take the USSR’s place in the UN: “You said ‘legitimate membership in the Security Council’. I was not at the UN when this happened. This should have happened around the time of the collapse of the USSR in 1990-1991. But no, I have not seen any document yet. And I don’t know if such a document exists… Russia has illegally usurped the USSR’s place in the UN, has not gone through any procedure and has no right to be in the UN General Assembly and the UN Security Council”.
Russia’s expulsion from the illegally occupied seat of the USSR at the UN will allow to unblock the Security Council and adopt the resolutions necessary for the restoration of peace. Obviously, any thinking person should insist on doing just that, rather than bemoaning the ineffectiveness of the United Nations. Our task is to defeat Russia using all available resources. If we simply dismiss the UN now and wait for a new organization to emerge, it could take decades.
To draw attention to the problem of Russia’s illegal usurpation of the USSR’s place in the UN and to encourage Ukraine to initiate its expulsion, I ask all those who read this to sign the international petition👉 https://www.change.org/p/kick-russia-out-of-the-un
