The Minister of Industry, Mr. Yahia Bachir, received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Mr. Maksim Ryzhenkov, with whom he discussed ways to strengthen industrial cooperation between the two countries and open up new prospects for joint investment, a ministry statement said on Thursday. The Belarusian Foreign Minister was accompanied by a high-level delegation including the Deputy Ministers of Industry and Health, the statement said. During this meeting, held last Wednesday at the ministry’s headquarters, in the presence of the ambassador of the Republic of Belarus to Algeria, Mr. Bachir highlighted “the solidity of relations between Algeria and Belarus”, insisting on “the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation and translating it into concrete industrial projects”, adds the same source. In this context, the minister called for the realization of joint industrial projects, particularly in the areas of mechanical industries and agricultural materials and equipment, as well as cooperation in matters of accreditation and standardization, with a view to developing productive partnerships and strengthening technology transfer. Mr. Bachir reiterated the commitment of the Ministry of Industry to support bilateral cooperation and to ensure the appropriate conditions for the success of industrial and technological partnerships, insisting on “the need to accelerate coordination between the institutions concerned in the two countries”. The minister gave “instructions for the establishment of joint working groups responsible for identifying priority areas of cooperation and monitoring the implementation of proposed projects on the ground,” the press release said. For his part, the Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs praised the depth of relations between the two countries, stressing that “Belarus is willing to establish direct partnerships with Algerian companies in the manufacturing of agricultural machinery and equipment, and to strengthen industrial and technical cooperation in areas of common interest.”
The meeting was also an opportunity to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation between the Algerian Accreditation Body (Algerac) and its Belarusian counterpart, through the conclusion of a memorandum of understanding providing for mechanisms for mutual accreditation of industrial standards and measures, which “will contribute to facilitating trade, strengthening the competitiveness of national products and supporting Algerian exports to foreign markets.
At the end of the meeting, the two parties reaffirmed “their common desire to continue coordination and deepen industrial and technical cooperation between Algeria and Belarus, as part of the new dynamic initiated thanks to the political will of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, and his Belarusian counterpart, Mr. Alexandre Lukashenko, with a view to building lasting strategic partnerships able to contribute to the development of industry and the strengthening of economic exchanges between the two friendly countries,” according to the same source.
