The 6th edition of the National Cultural Festival of Traditional Algerian Costume will be held from July 22 to 25, 2024 at the Center for Arts and Culture of the Palais des Raïs (Bastion 23) in Algiers, with a space dedicated to traditional Palestinian costume in solidarity with the Palestinian people suffering from the Zionist genocide, the festival’s curator said on Wednesday.
Speaking at a press conference, Commissioner Faiza Riach specified that this 6th edition of the festival will highlight “the art of traditional Algerian sewing” to show “the richness and diversity of our cultural heritage”, adding that a space will be dedicated to Palestine as a sign of solidarity with the Palestinian people in their resistance to the barbaric Zionist aggression in Gaza and the occupied territories. This edition aims to “promote the traditional Algerian costume and jewelry as an inseparable part of the national identity and cultural heritage and to create a scientific and academic database on this intangible heritage that can contribute to its preservation and to the various classifications on a global scale”, continued the same official. Several activities are planned during this festival, including an academic exhibition on the history of traditional Algerian costume, an exhibition of traditional Algerian outfits with the participation of 13 designers and the launch of the interaction platform “Costumes of my ancestors”.
