Fin du suspense – Le Jeune Indépendant

End of suspense and a long wait. A few days before the end of the deadline for the closing of applications for the presidential election of September 7, the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, officially announced his candidacy to run for a second term.

The announcement of his candidacy was made during the periodic meeting with the national media, a small but significant passage of which was published on Thursday afternoon on the official page of the Presidency on Facebook, a few hours before its full broadcast on several local television channels.

Tebboune said he “accedes the wishes of the political and non-political parties and national organizations and of the youth” who called on him to run for a second term.

Several political parties, including the FLN, the RND, the Moustakbel Front and the Al Bina movement, have given their support to Mr. Tebboune’s candidacy for a second term.

Immediately after this statement, the subscription forms for the individual signatures of the candidate for the election, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, were collected from the headquarters of the National Independent Authority for Elections (ANIE) by its representative, Boualem Boualem.

“In accordance with the provisions of the Constitution and the organic law relating to the electoral system, I have just withdrawn, on behalf of Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the subscription forms for individual signatures for his participation in the presidential election, and this by delegation on his part to do so, within the framework of the legal procedures in force,” Mr. Boualem told the press.

During his media interview at the People’s Palace, the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, indicated that his electoral program will be devoted to the completion of achievements and efforts aimed at leading Algeria to a successful conclusion.

“The important achievements accomplished, of which I am proud, were made possible thanks to the Algerian people,” said the President of the Republic, recalling that he had presented himself during his first candidacy for the presidency of the Republic as “the candidate of youth and civil society.”

“The worst thing in such journeys is to remain in the middle of the ford before arriving safely,” he said. Also, he assured that he will continue on this path as a candidate for a second term, addressing his thanks to the political parties that supported him.

Algeria is today “a country feared militarily, politically and on other levels” and “everyone recognizes its exploits, the adversary before the friend”, affirmed the President of the Republic, stressing that the next stage, if it is acclaimed by the people, will be devoted to “anchoring what has been initiated”.

The Head of State recalled, in this context, that his current mandate had in fact been reduced to two and a half years, with efforts having been concentrated, in the first two years, on the fight against “issaba” as well as the repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Algerians are now aware that their country is safe,” he continued. “They have the right to accept or refuse,” he said in reference to his announcement of candidacy, recalling that “the people are sovereign.” He was keen to point out that he has always had “a deep faith, since his youngest age, in Algeria’s ability to write history.”

President Tebboune did not fail to return to old harmful practices which, he said, “remind Algerians of a painful past, while we are talking about a new Algeria.” These practices “must stop,” he insisted.

After reaffirming that “Algeria and its people have triumphed over the ‘counter-revolution'”, the President of the Republic warned against “the remnants and the opportunists on the lookout”, recalling their attempts to create a climate of instability through acts of sabotage and attacks against members of the medical profession, as well as their attempts to cause shortages. “These practices were not without compensation”, he observed.

“The fifth column mobilized by foreign parties is participating in this same enterprise, several countries wishing for the instability of Algeria, because its stability is synonymous with power in several areas,” explained the President of the Republic.

“The Algerians understood today that the battle was real and that we have taken great steps towards victory,” he continued.

Referring to the role of members of the Algerian community abroad in the overall development process, President Tebboune recalled the efforts made by the State to protect their interests, which has strengthened their nationalism.

Asked about his working and inspection visit carried out last Wednesday in the wilaya of Tizi Ouzou, the President of the Republic affirmed that it was “successful on all levels”. After thanking the population for the warm welcome they gave him, the President of the Republic maintained that “the wilaya of Tizi Ouzou deserves all the attention”.

As a reminder, Mr. Tebboune was elected to the supreme magistracy on December 12, 2019 by 58.1% of the votes cast in the first round, with a record abstention of 60.1% of registered voters.
