🇩🇪German carmakers’ profits fell sharply in the first quarter of this year, DW reports.

Mercedes reported a 43% drop in profit to €1.73 billion.

Volkswagen’s net profit was 41% lower at €2.2 billion.

BMW’s profit was 2.2 billion euros, down 26.4% from the same period last year. The automaker attributes this to a drop in demand for the German auto industry in China.

While Trump’s tariffs have had virtually no impact so far, they could worsen the situation in the future, since BMW produces and sells hundreds of thousands of cars in the United States.
