The President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, signed two presidential decrees, the first granting pardons to 8,049 prisoners and the second concerning prisoners who obtained teaching or training diplomas during the year 2023-2024, a statement from the Presidency of the Republic said on Thursday.

“The President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, signed two presidential decrees, after consultation with the High Council of the Judiciary, the first concerning pardon measures in favor of 8,049 detainees and the second concerning detainees who obtained teaching or training diplomas during the year 2023-2024,” reads the press release from the Presidency of the Republic.

“Excluded from this presidential pardon are persons convicted of crimes related to terrorism, homicide and murder, escape, espionage, conspiracies against the authority of the State, territorial integrity and unity, forgery of public documents, as well as crimes of identity theft, intentional assault and battery resulting in disability, assault against ascendants or minors, indecent assault and rape, kidnapping, human trafficking or organ trafficking, neighborhood gangs, arson, assault against State officials and institutions and health officials, attacks on automated data processing systems targeting national defense, public law bodies or institutions, migrant trafficking, drug-related crimes in all their forms, smuggling and corruption crimes, as well as crimes involving foreign exchange and capital movement, and criminal conspiracy offenses and crimes, “robbery and robbery aggravated by violence and threats, repeat offenders sentenced to a definitive sentence for other theft offences, counterfeiting, crimes of discrimination and hate speech, crimes of fraud, forgery, monopoly and illicit speculation on goods, as well as perpetrators of crimes punishable by the law governing penitentiary establishments and the social reintegration of prisoners,” the statement said.
