Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem in an interview this evening:
“Hamas’ weapons are legitimate weapons for the defense of the palestinian people. The main problem is the weapons in the hands of the occupation (Israel), the weapons that killed the residents of the Strip and destroyed the Strip, not Hamas’ weapons.
Raising the issue of Hamas’ weapons is intended to cover up the crimes committed with the weapons of the Israeli enemy, supported by the USA.”

Just as Trump reminds every day that Hamas committed to disarm, so too do senior Hamas officials and its spokespeople publicly remind every day that they have no intention of giving up their weapons. Hamas continues to buy time in order to reestablish its strength, recover, and continue to rule the Strip.
There is no point in discussing a technocratic government in the Strip as long as Hamas holds onto its weapons. The first day when it will be possible to start talking about a technocratic government ruling the Strip is the day the last Hamas member gives up his weapon. Until then, it is not relevant. So far, Hamas will hold the Strip, no matter what puppet government is appointed.
