Hausse de 10% du taux de collecte – Le Jeune Indépendant


The collection rate of sheep skins in good condition, during Eid El Adha of the current year, increased by 10% compared to last year. This is what emerges from the first assessment of the Ministry of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production, which highlights the joint efforts of the parties concerned by the operation.

The announcement was made during the visit of the Minister of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production, Ali Aoun, to the Textile and Leather Industry Group (GETEX), aimed at evaluating the skin collection operation and wool during Eid El Adha, where he listened to a presentation presented by the Group CEO and unit directors.

“On this occasion, the minister welcomed the efforts made by workers during Eid El Adha, which resulted in a 10% increase in the collection rate of skins in good condition, compared to last year, according to the preliminary assessment, thanks to joint efforts across the national territory, in coordination with wilaya services,” according to the press release from the Ministry of Industry.

The GETEX group mobilized, for this purpose, more than 500 workers, in addition to coordination to ensure the transport and equipment necessary to carry out this operation. The minister also underlined “the imperative to intensify the efforts of the GETEX group throughout the year, in order to be present at the level of large slaughterhouses in the different wilayas”.

Regarding the recovery of wool, the first manager of the sector affirmed that this operation called for “the mobilization of all, given its major importance for the national economy”. Mr. Aoun also instructed the CEO of GETEX to “redouble efforts to regain the Group’s position and launch several textile factories which would contribute to the development of the national economy”.

More than 125,000 skins harvested in the eastern wilayas…

Furthermore, in the eastern region of the country, the Batna unit of Algerian leather and derivatives (ACED) reported on Thursday the collection of 125,276 sheep skins sacrificed during Eid El-Adha. “This large quantity of skins was received by the unit over a period of 5 days since last Sunday, the first day of Eid,” declared the head of the commercial department, Abdelkrim Yahiaoui.

He also specified that “the skins in question were received from 13 wilayas, namely Batna, Constantine, Sétif, Guelma, Biskra, Souk Ahras, Oum El Bouaghi, Skikda, Tébessa, Mila, Ouled Djellal, Annaba and Khenchela.” According to the same official, this year saw “a substantial increase in the number of skins received by the ACED Batna unit compared to the year 2023, marked by the collection of 5,000 pieces”.

He added that the skin sorting operation, intended to select pieces free from any tear or deterioration, continues with a view to transforming the skins in question into semi-finished pieces intended for the national market or for export..

“All human and material resources have been mobilized for the success of this campaign, in particular the designation of 44 workers from the production and maintenance services of the unit, mobilized since the morning of the first day of Eid El Adha,” said he said, noting the installation of a cell to monitor the process from receipt of the skins by the unit until their transport to the processing line.

The director of industry for the wilaya of Batna, Djelloul Menasri, in turn reported the mobilization of all human and material resources, and “coordinated work” with several sectors at the local level for the success of the skin collection campaign.

In this regard, he mentioned the requisition of trucks belonging to public companies in order to collect and transport the skins to the ACED unit in Batna.

The same source also recalled the organization, prior to the collection, of a “large-scale awareness campaign” aimed at citizens, urging them to ensure the integrity of the skins during the skinning of the immolated animals, and to place the fleeces in places designated in advance for their collection.

Note that the ACED Batna unit, located in the industrial zone of the wilaya capital, began operations in 1973. Producing on average 1,500 pieces of leather per day (mainly from sheep skins), it has carried out several export operations.

…and thousands more in the West

For the Western region, sheep skin collection campaigns in the different wilayas resulted in the collection and recovery of thousands of pieces intended for the leather industry. In the wilaya of Oran, the company responsible for managing technical landfill centers (EPIC CET Oran) recovered 1,716 intact skins, which were transferred to two manufacturers, said its director, Rachid Hamneche, who specified that his company mobilized no less than 50 agents and 5 trucks to collect household waste.

In the wilaya of Mascara, 13,400 units were collected, according to the local director of industry, Daghmane Raouf, who indicated that this quantity of skins was collected at five technical landfill centers in the communes of Mascara. Al Keurt, Mohammadia, Sig, Zahana and Oued El Abtal.

Part of the skins, namely 1,456 units, was delivered on Wednesday to a unit specializing in leather processing in the wilaya of Aïn Temouchent, while another part was delivered this Friday. The skin collection campaign in the wilaya of Mascara recorded the participation of the directorates of industry, public works and the environment and the municipalities, it was underlined.

In the wilaya of Tissemsilt, more than 3,800 skins were collected, according to the local director of Industry Rachid Terrari, who declared that the skins were sorted and 1,600 pieces declared intact and transferred to the tannery in the wilaya of Djelfa .

The same official welcomed the support of the inhabitants of the wilaya for the skin collection campaign and their commitment to the conditions of their conservation, which facilitated the process of treatment and sorting, thus avoiding their deterioration, taking into account of the high temperature recorded during this period.

In the wilaya of Relizane, more than 14,000 sheep skins were collected, according to the local director of Environment, Reda Bensalem, who indicated that the operation was organized in collaboration with the Directorate of Industry, in coordination with the Departments of Commerce and Export Promotion, that of Religious Affairs and Wakfs and the management company of technical landfill centers, in addition to the municipalities and the textile group “GETEX”.

The same source added that after sorting the skins, around 2,000 skins unsuitable for processing were eliminated and buried, while 12,054 healthy skins were directed to local companies specializing in leather processing and tanning.

In Sidi Bel Abbes, 8,000 sheep skins were collected on the occasion of Eid El-Adha, according to the local director of Industry, Djamel-eddine Bensouna.

In the wilaya of El Bayadh, this campaign resulted in the collection of 6,300 skins, during the days of Eid El-Adha, said the director of Industry of the wilaya Ahmed Bencherik.

The operation, for which all the necessary human and material resources were mobilized, received the support of citizens from all the municipalities of the wilaya. According to the same speaker, after the collection process, the skins were transferred to the public tannery located in the wilaya of Djelfa in order to sort them and exploit the intact pieces.
