The 9th National Festival of Women’s Creation, which will continue until May 17 at the Moufdi-Zakaria Palace of Culture, was inaugurated by the Minister of Culture and Arts, Soraya Mouloudji, who was accompanied by the ministers of Environment and Renewable Energy, Fazia Dahleb and Tourism and Crafts, Mokhtar Didouche, as well as the Festival commissioner, Sid Ali Benmerabet.
The Minister of Culture toured the various stands of the palace, encouraging the participants who “contribute to the valorization and preservation of Algerian heritage as well as the practices and know-how linked to these ancestral professions,” she said. declared. And to add that “this unmissable event aims to highlight the different works of Algerian women”.
The organization of this event highlights the State’s strong commitment to promoting culture and enhancing national heritage. “This initiative is directly in line with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s directives aimed at strengthening the role and place of Algerian women in society.”
This event offers a valuable platform for women to exhibit their talents, share their knowledge and contribute to the enrichment of Algerian culture.
Organized this year under the theme “Costumes and Adornments, cultural heritage throughout history”, this event coincides with the festivities of Heritage Month. It will also promote know-how and put it at the service of safeguarding our heritage and our identity. The priority being the development of all the riches of the country in its diversity.
Creation and innovation remain the organizers’ watchword for this edition and above all highlight the new vision of young artists. The Festival’s mission is to promote skills that contribute to the preservation of Algerian identity and intangible cultural heritage.
The Festival plans, in its program, the inauguration of an academic exhibition on the history of costume through female creation. This initiative is essential to highlight the role of women in the conservation and safeguarding of national heritage across generations and to emphasize current developments.
The public will have the opportunity to discover the history of clothing and the accessories that accompany them, old outfits will also be on display. A children’s area will be organized at the end of this exhibition with educational games on the theme of heritage.
The Palace of Culture will also house a space dedicated to creators or major fashion houses, who will exhibit their creations with a new and contemporary vision. Each haute couture house will have the mission of creating, for this occasion, a modern and contemporary garment inspired by our sartorial heritage, this will be accompanied by accessories and jewelry with a modern touch.
The event also includes live arts workshops where artists from the four corners of the country will be in action in their creations (jewelry, clothing, embroidery, weaving, etc.).
Training remains the most sensitive means of transmission, for this “we are going to highlight schools from the four corners of Algeria which are there to defend our heritage embroidery, stone cutting, tailoring, jewelry…”, explained organizers. An exhibition of the finished products of the artists and creators will be presented, or they will be able to highlight their creations and products to the public present.
For the first time, the festival will highlight start-ups that defend the culture and art sector by digitizing it, while having international visibility. “Joint work will be undertaken for a database and broad visibility, we will, in fact, coordinate with them the project to create our label “Be Djazairi””, underlined the same source.
The last stage of this festival is to invite certain museums to the palace of culture, in order to make them known to the general public, but also to be able to highlight their collections of clothing, jewelry, accessories.
Alongside this festival there will be 4 master classes which will take place over 3 days. Interested parties can participate in the workshop of creating art embroidery, drawings and sketches, or even jewelry creations. A design thinking workshop (creative and user-centered approach to solving problems) will be organized in Dar Abdelatif (AARC) and possibly a workshop on art portrait photography and clothing photos. Conferences and meetings will also be given by costume and jewelry experts.
A first draft will be developed for the launch of a book on outfits and adornments with the participation of experts in the field but also “beauzaristes” for illustration and certain museums and research centers for documentation.
