The volume of medicines sent by Algeria to treat pilgrims is estimated at eight tonnes, distributed between two structures serving as pharmacies on site. The first was installed in Mecca and the second in Medina and neighboring health units. This was indicated this Wednesday by Dahmane Mahmoud, head of the medical mission of the Algerian Hajj delegation.
This quantity of medicines covers all illnesses and specialties, whether urgent or daily follow-up of treatments, he added, specifying that the care procedures began since the arrival of the first pilgrims on May 20. in Medina.
The same official said, in a statement on National Radio, that the medical staff mobilized for this year is made up of 120 members, divided into 30 members in Medina, 5 at Jeddah airport and 80 others in Mecca. The medical and paramedical teams are divided into several specialties, including cardiology, infectious and respiratory diseases.
As for the central clinic of the Algerian delegation in Mecca, it includes 20 beds and 6 adjacent health units. It is deployed near places where Algerian pilgrims are accommodated in order to intervene quickly and effectively if necessary.
Dr Dahmane Mahmoud reminded us that all pilgrims must avoid sunstroke, particularly between midday and afternoon prayers, and to drink plenty of water.
