IDF forces operating in northern Gaza have recovered an assault rifle belonging to Cpt. Daniel Perez, who was killed and taken into Gaza during the October 7, 2023 massacre, and whose body was brought back to Israel around two months ago.

According to the army, reservists from the Carmeli Brigade located the M-16 rifle at a booby-trapped site in the north of the Strip, following intelligence that indicated the weapon had been hidden there.

Perez had been deployed near the Gaza border on the morning of October 7, where he and his tank crew battled Hamas terrorists for hours until he was killed together with Sgt. Tomer Leibovitz and Staff Sgt. Itay Chen. The bodies of Perez and Chen were dragged into Gaza, while their fellow crew member, Matan Angrest, was kidnapped alive.
