The Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, underlined, the day before yesterday Sunday, in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia), the importance of adapting the programs of the General Conference of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) to the priorities of the African continent.
In particular, said a press release from the ministry, in the areas of renewable energies, digital transition, circular economy, skills training and technology transfer. Recalling, in passing, the success of the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF-2025), recently hosted by Algeria with the effective participation of the Organization.
Speaking at the opening of the work of the 21st session of the General Conference of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), which is being held in the form of a ”World Industry Summit”, with the participation of ministers, senior officials and leaders of global industrial companies, from November 23 to 27, Mohamed Arkab spoke of the historic initiative of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to dedicate a billion dollars to finance development projects in Africa.
Ensuring that Algeria is ready to host the 4th edition of the African Start-ups Forum, in support of entrepreneurship and innovation among young people.
Participating as representative of Algeria, at the head of a large delegation composed of representatives from the hydrocarbons, mining and industry sectors, as well as the Algerian Ambassador to Austria and permanent representative to UNIDO, Larbi Latroch, the Algerian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Oualid Chérif, the President of the National Agency for Mining Activities (ANAM), Mourad Hanifi, and senior executives of various national authorities, Mohamed Arkab, on the occasion, shed light on the profound economic reforms that Algeria is experiencing, under the leadership of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, aimed at diversifying the national economy, strengthening manufacturing industries, supporting the green and circular economy, achieving digitalization and industrial innovation, promoting human capital and encouraging investment in Start-ups as well as technology transfer.
Algeria, he continued, has great potential in terms of renewable energies thanks to its geographical position and its high level of sunshine, which makes it a favorable base for the development of an economy based on clean energy and green hydrogen.
Reviewing the major energy and structuring projects currently being implemented, in particular the SoutH2 Corridor project for the transport of green hydrogen to Europe and the electricity interconnection project between Algeria and Italy (Medlink), as well as the programs for extending the production of renewable energies and developing green hydrogen.
Finally, stressing that cooperation between Algeria and UNIDO includes several projects in the areas of green and circular economy, industrial digital transformation, technology transfer, strengthening the innovation system, support for start-ups and micro-enterprises, and the development of industrial and technological capacities, the minister affirmed that Algeria aspires to deepen cooperation with the Organization in the areas of new and renewable energies, industrial innovation, value chains and improvement of investment climate.
