The 55e edition of the Algiers International Fair (FIA), which ended yesterday, was distinguished by a strong foreign presence. Around thirty countries took part in this international event, considered one of the largest economic meetings in North Africa. An indicator of the attractiveness and opportunities offered by Algeria following the institutional and legal reforms undertaken.
This is a real revival of interest for Algeria, which aspires to become an essential investment hub, after having brought together all the conditions to achieve this objective. Proof of this is the large participation of foreign exhibitors, representing 32 countries, who traveled for six days to Algiers, in order to participate in the FIA.
“The FIA is regaining the interest of foreign countries,” said Ms. Mokdad, communications manager of the Algerian Society of Fairs and Exports (Safex), who reported an increase in the countries participating in the FIA 2024, in comparison with the previous editions. previous ones.
In addition to the usual participating countries, she reported the return of Canada and the Czech Republic as well as the arrival of new countries, with the participation of several companies operating in various fields. Pointing out that in “previous years, it was difficult to convince a foreign country to come”, she said that the situation has changed and that this attractiveness is the result of the reforms, facilities and incentives that Algeria grants to foreigners wishing to invest in Algeria.
They were therefore there to discover the different investment potentials of the Algerian market, strengthen cooperation with Algerian economic operators, identify new customers and, why not, conclude partnership relations. The State’s support for local and foreign investors was reiterated by the President of the Republic, signaling the State’s commitment to facilitating investment procedures and giving greater impetus to non-hydrocarbon exports. Indeed, during the inauguration of the FIA last Monday, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune reiterated the State’s desire to support project leaders and industrial companies in expanding their investments, particularly in the fields of electronics, steel and agri-food industries, pointing out the progress made by the national industrial sector, including the increase in the national integration rate in recent years.
The President thus insisted, during his visit to the stand of the Algerian Agency for the Promotion of Investment (AAPI), on the need to “accelerate and facilitate investment procedures”. It was reported that around 7,500 projects had been registered, including 129 projects for foreign operators, with a total value of nearly 3,500 billion dinars.
While welcoming the success of this edition, the communications manager of Safex, who reported the conclusion of partnerships between economic operators, without giving further details since the final results have not yet been established, underlined the large influx of visitors recorded at the various pavilions hosted by the FIA for six days. The peak was recorded, according to her, on Friday, with a record number of visitors setting out to discover local and foreign production. And it is the pavilion bringing together agri-food operators which was very popular with visitors.
As for the duration devoted to the FIA, namely six days, it is described by Ms. Mokdad as appropriate, especially since it is a professional meeting and according to the testimony of the exhibitors, the duration was sufficient. Organized under the high patronage of the President of the Republic, the 55e The FIA edition was held under the theme “Exchange Bridges and Partnership and Investment Opportunities”.
