Inscriptions ouvertes – Le Jeune Indépendant

The Algiers International Film Festival (FICA) has announced its twelfth edition, scheduled for November 24-30. This film event, which attracts filmmakers and film enthusiasts from around the world every year, promises a rich and diverse program.

Filmmakers wishing to participate in this edition can register their films from July 27, 2024. The period for receiving films will continue until August 27, 2024. Registrations are made exclusively via the official website of the festival: [ficadz.com](https://ficadz.com/wp/).

This year, the festival is distinguished by its strong commitment to the Palestinian cause. True to its historical and constant support, the Festival will dedicate special activities and events to honor Palestinian cinema. Emblematic institutions and personalities who courageously work to make the voice of justice heard will be honored. The names of these figures and entities will be revealed in the coming weeks, promising moments of recognition and intense emotion.

As a reminder, the previous edition of FICA took place in December 2022. During this closing ceremony, a tribute was paid to the foundation “Shashat” (Screens) for women’s cinema”, a Palestinian national, independent, non-governmental and non-profit institution. It has worked, since its creation in 2005, to develop and strengthen young Palestinian cinema, especially that made by women. A tribute greatly applauded by the audience.

Around 60 films, including 25 in official competition, took part in the 11th edition of the annual Festival dedicated to committed films, organized since 2011. The feature-length fiction film “Limbo” by Ben Sharrock (United Kingdom) won three awards: the Grand Prix for feature-length fiction; the Gandhi Medal awarded by the International Film and Television Council (CITC) and the Audience Award (feature-length fiction category). The FICA created this last award in order to allow the public to be involved, to give their opinion and above all to express their choices (this award concerns the three categories in competition).

Zahia (Zehira) Yahi, who was at the head of Fica for several years, has been dismissed from her duties. Producer and audiovisual expert Mehdi Benaïssa will now take over. He will be assisted by critic Ahmed Bedjaoui who will keep his position as artistic director.
