Intensification of maintenance operations for electricity networks during the summer

The National Electricity and Gas Society (Sonelgaz), through its Sonelg-Z-Transport of electricity and system operator, intensified its preventive maintenance operations of electrical lines and equipment during the summer period, within the framework of its regular maintenance program to protect the network, improve its efficiency and guarantee the continuity of its services, said a press release on Thursday.
The technical teams of electricity transport districts, specialized in the washing of high and very high voltage power equipment and lines, work to materialize this program in a quantitative and qualitative manner in several wilayas, in particular coastal, while intensifying these operations during the summer, said the same source.
These measures tend to improve the performance of electric lines and equipment of transformation stations, affected by various environmental factors, such as dust pollution and industrial emissions, as well as by a high humidity level and the concentration of salts in the air of coastal areas, which negatively impacts their operation, according to the same source.
To avoid the leakage current which can cause breakdowns and protect insulators and equipment against wear, SONELGAZ-Transport of electricity and system operator has mobilized all the necessary human and logistical resources, namely 58 maintenance teams composed of 358 workers, who work daily in washing of 16.103 electric pylons and 927 electrical installations, using 113 machines and trucks, Special cranes, as well as a helicopter in difficult to access areas, in addition to the cleaning of 26,406 electric insulators.
These operations are carried out according to modern technical standards, with precautions guaranteeing the continuity of the service. Certain interventions are carried out under tension, others in the context of maintenance programs excluding tension, in order to preserve the performance and stability of the network, concluded the press release.
