Investigation: Almost 2 years into first reports of wrongdoing, Ukraine’s International Legion appears immune to change
This is the third part of the Kyiv Independent’s investigation into the International Legion – a military formation created for foreign fighters defending Ukraine.
After investigations by Ukrainian law enforcement and global public attention following Kyiv Independent and other media reports in 2022-2023, the Legion seems to have not implemented any substantial changes.
Instead of suspending or firing commanders subject to soldiers’ complaints, the leadership of the Legion either kept them at their posts or transferred them to other units.
Commanders in the military intelligence (HUR) arm of the Legion continue to abuse subordinates in the ways similar to what the Kyiv Independent reported in 2022.
