Israeli forces have brought a casket containing what may be the remains of a slain hostage out of Gaza, the IDF reports. The casket is now under police escort on its way to the Abu Kabir forensic institute in Tel Aviv, where specialists will conduct a formal identification. Officials say the process could take up to two days.

Al Jazeera broadcast footage of the handover, showing Hamas operatives placing the photograph of a hostage — murdered and seized by Islamic Jihad on October 7 — on top of the body bag, though the identity has not been verified.

If forensic teams confirm the remains belong to an Israeli hostage, it would mean that three murdered hostages are still being held inside Gaza.
