Polio vaccination campaign scheduled for November 30

poliomyelitis Ministry of Health

In a press release made public yesterday, Monday, the Ministry of Health specified that the launch of the national polio vaccination campaign is scheduled for next Sunday, i.e. the 30th of the current month of November. “The national vaccination campaign against poliomyelitis will be launched, starting next Sunday, with the aim of strengthening health prevention and increasing the collective immunity of children,” said a press release from the Ministry of Health yesterday, Monday. The objective of this national campaign, adds the Health information bulletin, “aims to vaccinate more than 4.4 million children, aged 2 to 59 months, who constitute the category most exposed to risk, at the level of 274 local public health establishments”, notes the same source. Placed under the theme: “Together, united against poliomyelitis”, this national campaign will be deployed in three phases: “From November 30 to December 6, 2025, from December 21 to 27, 2025 and, finally, from January 25 to 31, 2026, with the injectable IPV vaccine”, notes the ministry, while specifying that “all children in the targeted age group are affected by all phases, without exception, including those who have already received the vaccines in the routine vaccination schedule. Also, in its press release yesterday, the Ministry of Health indicated that the organization of this campaign comes “following the recording of a few cases of variant poliovirus type 2 (VDPV2) in certain wilayas”, adding that “this in no way calls into question the certificate attesting that Algeria has been exempt from wild poliovirus since 2016”. The Ministry of Health stressed that it was also decided to initiate, or even “adopt, the type 2 oral vaccine, given its effectiveness and safety against poliovirus variants, in addition to an IPV vaccine”, reiterating that the vaccine is “safe and effective” and that each dose is “essential” to “protect the health of children, in order to interrupt the chain of transmission of the virus and strengthen national health security”. Before concluding its press release yesterday, the Ministry of Health invited all parents to “participate massively in this national campaign, by going to the nearest health establishment or to contact mobile vaccination teams during the days of the campaign, in order to preserve the health of their children”, end of the press release from the Ministry of Health.
