On September 7, how many will submit their candidacy for the Presidency of the Republic to the voters’ vote? The Constitutional Court will announce it after having examined, within a maximum of 7 days, the candidates’ files and processed the appeals filed by candidates whose files were rejected by the National Independent Authority for Elections (ANIE).
Since the announcement on Thursday by the ANIE of the three accepted and 13 rejected candidacy files for the September 7 presidential election, the Constitutional Court has received four appeals from candidates, whose identities have not been revealed.
The Acting Director General of Legal Affairs and Constitutional Justice, Mr. Ahmed Ibrahim Boukhari, announced the day before yesterday Friday that the reception of appeals from candidates for the presidential election of September 7 whose files were rejected by the ANIE was continuing, reporting “four (4) appeals filed so far”. It is therefore at the end of the examination of the application files and appeals that we will know the final list of successful candidates which will be announced by the Constitutional Court.
A decisive phase of the electoral process will then open, since it is the period of the electoral campaign which will begin twenty-three days before the date of the poll and will end three days before the date of the poll.
On Thursday, after learning that their candidacies had been accepted by the ANIE, because they had fulfilled the conditions contained in the organic law relating to the electoral system, the president of the MSP, Abdelaali Hassani Cherif, and the first national secretary of the FFS, Youcef Aouchiche, addressed the press and hinted at what the content of their electoral campaign would be.
Thus, the president of the MSP affirmed that this deadline was an “opportunity to continue the path traced by the Declaration of November 1, 1954, to build a strong economy capable of achieving the well-being of Algerians and preserving social security” for our country. He will tour inside and outside the country to present and explain his program while raising awareness, he said, among voters of the importance of this election.
As for the first national secretary of the FFS, he clearly stated that his candidacy for this presidential election was the bearer of a national project and a message of hope for a better tomorrow for all Algerians. Youcef Aouchiche will represent, on the occasion of the presidential election, “the democratic, progressive and modernist national current”. It is clear. He intends to make this election “an opportunity to revive public debate”.
For his part, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, whose candidacy was also accepted by the ANIE, had made it known, by announcing his intention to run for a second presidential term, during his periodic media interview at the People’s Palace, broadcast on Thursday, July 11, 2024, that his electoral program will be devoted to the completion of achievements and efforts aimed at leading Algeria to a successful conclusion.
He believes that Algeria is today “a country feared militarily, politically and on other levels” and “everyone recognizes its exploits, the adversary before the friend”, stressing that the next step, if it is acclaimed by the people, will be devoted to “anchoring what has been initiated”.
The President of the Republic recalled, in this context, that his current mandate had in fact been reduced to two and a half years, with efforts having been concentrated, in the first two years, on the fight against issaba and the repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic.
However, it is the electoral campaign that will allow candidates to present their presidential programs and try to convince voters.
The current international context highlights in the clearest possible way the challenges facing Algeria and the threats that weigh or loom over the achievements accumulated since independence.
This involves strengthening the internal front to preserve the stability essential for economic and social development, built with national capacities and in the service of the national interest and the Algerian people.
What will the candidates propose in this perspective? It will be up to them to say when presenting their electoral programs.
