The involvement of Algerian skills established abroad in economic recovery, particularly in the field of technology, is put back on the agenda by the public authorities. Based on this principle, the Alinov Foundation, the first Algerian private incubator, in partnership with the Haba Institute, launched their new “Algeria-MercyTech” program, aimed at developing advanced technologies and innovative start-ups.
The meeting, held this Monday, brought together numerous experts, academics and heads of higher education establishments around the question of the role of Algerian skills from the diaspora and their contribution to the country’s technological innovation.
“How can we attract Algerian skills established abroad and retain those working in the country, in order to help boost the entrepreneurial ecosystem, particularly in technology? » is one of the issues discussed during the launch of “Algeria-MercyTech”,
The president of the Alinov Foundation, Samira Fekrache, affirmed that MercyTech is a program intended for Algerians living in Algeria or abroad. The objective is to “bring together this collective intelligence and be ambassadors of Algeria throughout the world”.
She indicated, in this sense, that Algerian talents established abroad represent a real gold mine in terms of skills and expertise that must absolutely be exploited. “These highly qualified Algerians represent an inestimable wealth for the development of our national technological ecosystem,” she said.
This program, explains Ms. Fekrache, is designed on a universal value of knowledge sharing and aims to develop and attract “start-up” companies who will work in Algeria, facilitating their access to the international market, particularly in Africa. “MercyTech is more than an event, it is a movement towards the future. It represents a unique opportunity for Algeria to show the world its potential for innovation and its commitment to technological development,” underlined Ms. Fekrache.
She made it clear that Alinov’s ambitions go, today, beyond offering support and incubation services to innovative start-ups, working to create a solid bridge between Algeria and its precious technological diaspora.
Among the areas on which we are working “is that of finding financing mechanisms, which will allow these companies to raise funds internationally”. To do this, Ms. Fekrache calls for a favorable ecosystem with an adequate regulatory framework.
For her part, Nadia Bennacer, innovation management consultant, president of the entrepreneurship consultant network (ICE) – Paris, stressed that the importance of this event is not limited to a simple meeting of brilliant minds, “ it is a real platform to transform our dialogues into concrete actions that shape the future of our technology ecosystem.”
For his part, Dr Ali Kahlane, senior consultant, vice-president of the CARE Think Tank, member of the MercyTech Expert management, believes that Algeria is at the dawn of a technological revolution. “This forum is an exceptional opportunity to mobilize the knowledge and resources of Algerians around the world to build a sustainable ecosystem that will support our technological ambitions.”
For Dr Ahmed Damou, president of the Algerian Association for Technology Transfer (A2T2), CEO of Haba Institute, the role of technology transfer is crucial for Algeria. “We must adopt and adapt global innovations to meet our local challenges and this meet-up is the ideal venue to forge the partnerships necessary for this adaptation,” he added.
