More than 30 formal notices for illegal drilling
Water is a commodity that is becoming increasingly scarce. If climatic causes are at the origin of the water stress facing the country and which persists, the fact remains that the human factor is also responsible, to a certain extent, for the shortage in homes. If there is a scourge that has been growing for several years, it is that of the construction of wells without authorization in most municipalities in the wilaya of Relizane. In this context, the hygiene services of the municipality of Relizane recently launched a campaign to combat illegal drilling, we learn from sources close to the hygiene and sanitation division (DHA) of the municipality of Relizane. Our interlocutors indicate that more than thirty formal notices have been sent to operators of illicitly drilled wells, ordering them to destroy them. They were given a period of ten days before the intervention of the services concerned which will themselves destroy these wells. Most of the illicit drilling was found on agricultural land, and some of these wells were used to supply water peddlers. In addition to drilling on agricultural land, a team of control agents patrols neighborhoods known for their high concentration of illicit drilling. The agents’ mission will be to control “haouch” homes where wells have been drilled without first obtaining authorization from the services concerned. Here too, offenders will be ordered to comply with the laws and regulations. Our sources also report that the wali of Relizane insisted on the implementation of all means likely to put an end to a phenomenon which is becoming more and more widespread and which dangerously threatens the water table.
