Civil protection deplores five injured

Electric counters take fire to Mostaganem

The elements of the main civil protection unit of the wilaya succeeded, on the night of Sunday around 10:00 p.m., to circumscribe a fire which declared itself at the level of electric counters at the entrance of a building located in the city of Haï El Wiam, located some 800 meters from downtown Mostaganem, we learned this Monday of this constituted body.

The communication unit of the Wilaya Civil Protection Directorate indicated that its elements have intervened in order to extinguish the fire which has declared itself in group electric meters located in a building. The fire, which took on the ground floor and the first and second floor, made five (5) injured, aged between 36 and 68 years. Our source also said that some victims suffered from asphyxiation when others were in shock. It should be noted that the victims received first aid care on the spot before being evacuated to the hospital. Electric counters that ignite without apparent reasons in several cities in Mostaganem, constitute a recurring phenomenon that seriously concerns Sonelgaz as well as subscribers, worried especially for their safety. The rise of mercury in recent days, combined with electrical consumption which has reached important peaks, exacerbated this phenomenon whose damage presented by the local directorate of civil protection and the distribution of gas and electricity is alarming. Several of these fires caused by electric meters have been recorded, especially in the large municipalities of the wilaya with high demographic density following a short circuit caused by strong tension.
