While the summer season is in full swing and temperatures reach heights, several wilayas of the country have been the scene of a series of vegetation fires in recent hours. Thanks to a rapid and massive mobilization of civil protection services, the majority of these fires have been mastered, thus avoiding large -scale ecological disasters. This was indicated yesterday a press release from the Civil Protection Directorate.
According to an official assessment, several fire households have declared themselves in forest areas, brush and maquis through different regions of the country. Interventions on the ground continue tirelessly, still according to the same source.
Among the areas where the flames are still active, an important fire has been reported in the wilaya of Blida, precisely in the region of Ben Saâda, commune of Djebabra, affected by a fire of brush and shrubs. Another home is being treatment in the wilaya of Mila, at Mechta Boudaoud, commune of Tassala Lemtai. Civil protection teams are still on site, fighting against flames to prevent their spread.
On the other hand, several interventions have already borne fruit. In the wilaya of Béjaïa, a fire having ravaged the maquis in the region of El-Mathen, a commune of Chemini, was fully mastered. Same observation in the wilaya of Skikda, where the fire soldiers managed to extinguish a forest fire which had started in the village Rabeh Metatla, commune of Beni Oulbane. In both cases, surveillance patrols remain mobilized to prevent any resumption of fire.
Other wilayas have also been affected by fires now under control. In Béjaïa, homes have been extinguished in the municipalities of Amizour, Oued Ghir, Kherrata, Tala Hamza, Tizi N’berber and Imeddane. The fires that affected the area of Aïn El-Beïda, in the commune of Guerrouma in Bouira, are now completely controlled. The situation is now stable in the wilaya of Tizi Ouzou, where the flames were completely extinguished in the forest of Tizi l’ir, commune of Azazga, as well as in other localities like Aïn El-Hammam, Sidi Naâmane, Bouzeguène as well as in the city of Tizi Ouzou herself.
Finally, several villages located in the wilayas of Sétif, El-Tarf, Mila, Guelma, Jijel and Batna were also affected by the flames, but the interventions made it possible to definitively extinguish the fires, thus avoiding larger ecological damage.
This major deployment, according to information provided by civil protection, testifies to the vigilance and responsiveness of civil protection services, which continue their supervisory and intervention mission to preserve the country’s forest wealth. While the risks remain raised in this extreme heat period, the authorities call for the vigilance of all to avoid new fire starts.
