La RASD réaffirme sa position – Le Jeune Indépendant

Before a meeting of the Security Council: the RASD reaffirms its position

Rejection of any unilateral solution.

The UN-OUA joint regulation plan is the only practical and reasonable agreement to achieve a peaceful, fair and lasting solution. This is what the Sahrawi government said.

This declaration comes a few weeks before a meeting of the UN Security Council, scheduled for next October and devoted to the question of Western Sahara and its decolonization.

In a statement published by the Ministry of Information of the Arab Republic of Democratic Sahrawi, the Sahrawi government reiterated the will of the Polisario Front to engage in constructive and positive way in the process of peace sponsored by the UN in Western Sahara.

In this regard, he reiterated that the UN-OUA regulation plan, which was mutually accepted in 1988 by the two parties, the Polisario Front and Morocco, and approved unanimously by the Security Council in its resolutions 658 (1990) and 690 (1991), is the only agreement of mutually accepted, practical and reasonable compromise to achieve a peaceful, fair and lasting solution.

The Sahraoui press release is even more sharp, warning that “any unilateral solution aimed at” legitimizing “the Moroccan illegal occupation of Western Sahara and undergoing the sovereign will of the Sahrawi people and their inalienable right to self -determination and independence is not only unacceptable in its entirety, but it also represents a danger for peace, security and stability region “.

The RASD wishes to remind all those who are sincerely concerned about stability and security in North West Africa that “a lasting peace in our region can never be achieved without the full respect of the fundamental principles of international law, in particular the sacred and intangible law of peoples to self-determination and freedom”.

The Sahrawi government has urged all international stakeholders, including permanent members of the Security Council, to use their influence for the revival of the peace process in Western Sahara sponsored by the UN, and this by giving the means and support necessary for Minurso so that it fully fulfills its mandate in the decolonization of Western Sahara, last colony of Africa.

In addition, the president of the RASD, Brahim Ghali, participated the day before yesterday in the opening of the work of the second Africa-Caricom summit, which is held in Addis Ababa, in the presence of the leaders of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) as well as regional and international representatives.

Participants debated the means of strengthening the strategic partnership between the two parties (Africa-Carricom) and to advance cooperation in the political, economic and common development fields.

The leaders of the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, the African Development Bank, the Development Bank of the Caribbean and Afreximbank, as well as high representatives of the African Union, the United Nations and several international organizations also participated in the summit.
