As it does regularly, as a Mediterranean partner member, the Council of the Nation participates in the Forum of the Special Mediterranean and Middle East Group (GSM) of the Parliamentary Assembly of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO PA), which is being held in Palermo (Italy), indicates, the day before yesterday Monday, a press release from the Council. Charged by the President of the Council, Azouz Nasri, it is Aissa Naili, member of the National Defense Commission at the Council of the Nation, who is participating in this forum, organized by the Subcommittee on Partnerships under NATO and the Commission on Democracy and Security (CDS) of the GSM under the NATO PA, specifies the same source.
On the agenda: multilateral cooperation, finding solutions to conflicts and putting an end to them; common security challenges in the Euro-Mediterranean region, including climate security, migration, counter-terrorism and transnational organized crime. During her participation in this parliamentary meeting, Aissa Naili stressed that “the complexity of the challenges in the Mediterranean region contrasts with the simplicity of the solutions, which require their implementation in accordance with the resolutions of international legitimacy, adding that the marginalization of these resolutions has transformed the Mediterranean region into a scene of crimes against humanity committed on one of its shores, in Gaza, and in the occupied Palestinian territories”.
Noting that “the real difficulties arise when solutions are neglected”, he highlighted that “dealing with the climate crisis in the Mediterranean region requires a fair distribution of responsibilities and the development of a mechanism to provide the necessary support to developing countries to enable them to cope with natural disasters resulting from global warming”. To this end, he affirmed that “Algeria is among the most active States in terms of adaptation and environmental reform, through its National Climate Plan (PNC) for the period 2020-2030”, adding that “Algeria spares no effort to contribute to international cooperation in terms of crisis resolution and foresight to future risks”. Furthermore, he recalled that “Algeria remains faithful to its global, balanced and united approach to migration”, highlighting “its pioneering experience in the fight against terrorism, based on a global approach and combining fight and prevention, which has allowed it to be the most stable country in the region”.
