Given that summer is just around the corner, synonymous with the advent of the summer season, the authorities and residents are working hard to put in place a system linked to amenities and conditions for taking care of visitors during their stay. Located 40 km to the far east of the border of the wilaya of Bgayet, Melbou is one of the coastal communes of Kabylia in the wilaya of Béjaïa, alongside Zaima el Mansouria, a commune listed in the territory of the wilaya of Jijel. The number of its population is almost 20,000 inhabitants.
It extends over an area of ​​47.47 km² since it is accessible from the RN 43 and the CW 17 and delimited: to the North by the Mediterranean Sea, to the East by the wilaya of Jijel, to the South and to the South -East by the mountainous commune of Tamridjet, to the southwest by the commune of Deguina, to the west by the coastal commune of Souk El Tenine.
Note that Melbou has simultaneously experienced, in recent years, a profitable facelift in its architectural and urban decor through the multiplication of various constructions in its urban spaces and a rural exodus from neighboring municipalities. The buildings erected in the middle of the forest around the CW17 road axis constitute a real village in the making.
Surrounded by at least nine large overpopulated towns such as, in addition to its capital Melbou center, there are: Les Falaises, Sahel, Djenane, Takliat, Béni Bouhafene, Aït Yahia, Boulzazene, Aguemoun and Thiziwar. This last agglomeration in the face of a municipality considered as the most populous village in Bgayet. Located on the axis of CW 17 serving the town of Tamridjet. In short, four beaches are declared authorized for swimming, namely, Tassift EL Marsa, EL Djorf Dahabi, 8-Mai 1945 and Agrioun, as well as three unauthorized beaches: Lac, Tiqse, Les Falaises, une gorge, Oued Agrioun , Oued Bourzazen. The latter may be authorized if the competent authorities in this area make the necessary efforts in terms of monitoring and establishing road access and providing parking.
On the tourist discovery side, the place called Les Falaises, whose length of 11,873 km, is a shape of peninsula that the locals call ”Donkey’s Back”. It has a height of 102 m and its slopes are made of limestone sandstone. In terms of material and intangible heritage potential, Melbou is home to an archaeological site on which researchers once discovered the man of Afalou Bourmel which dates back 16,000 years, constituting a world heritage, without however forgetting the existence of a old port, a tourist village of cliffs including the Djbel Alighir
In terms of tourist infrastructure, Melbou offers, all around the main road extending national road No. 43, a multitude of shops offering traditional and modern dishes to customers, as it has two classified hotels, 8 canvas camps, a state tourist complex, El Djorf, a youth camp, an inn, a tourist activity zone currently in gestation, associations working for the promotion of tourism and the protection of the environment, contribute to the development of tourist assets of this town of which she has produced a tourist guide to the region to raise awareness of how to better preserve these riches.
