Tebboune at the African Summit on Infrastructure Financing: The Path to Renaissance

The constant support of Algeria.

The President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, pleaded this Tuesday for a connected and united African continent. During the work of the 3rd Summit on financing infrastructure for development in Africa, which began in Luanda, in the Angolan capital, the President of the Republic stressed that infrastructures do not represent simple material works but rather “the arteries of development and the keys to African integration”, constituting the essential basis for the achievement of Agenda 2063 of the African Union and the sustainable development objectives on a global scale. worldwide.

In his message to the participants in this event, read by the President of the Council of the Nation, Azouz Nasri, the Head of State reaffirmed Algeria’s constant commitment to African development, recalling that Algeria, faithful to its principles of solidarity and unity, remains committed to supporting the implementation of structuring and integrating projects.

“The true economic renaissance of Africa,” he insisted, “could not materialize without the creation of modern and interconnected infrastructures responding to the aspirations of our people and the demands of a changing world.”

In his speech, President Tebboune called for the establishment of a favorable environment facilitating “the free movement of people, goods and services through an integrated network of roads, ports, railways, digital spaces and energy sources”, an essential condition for regional integration and the unification of African markets.

It should be noted that Mr. Nasri first conveyed the fraternal greetings and esteem of President Tebboune to his counterpart João Lourenço, President of the Republic of Angola and current Chairman of the African Union, welcoming his generous initiative to host this major meeting and his sincere efforts to strengthen the unity of the continent and defend its vital causes.

President Tebboune also congratulated the African Union Commission and the African Union Agency NEPAD New partnership for Africa’s development for their exemplary organization of this event which, according to him, “comes at a crucial moment and reflects our common desire to strengthen cooperation and redouble our efforts in the face of the development challenges facing our continent”.

This new edition of the Luanda Summit is part of the continental dynamic aimed at mobilizing the necessary financing to fill the infrastructure gap and accelerate the economic transformation of Africa within the framework of sustainable and equitable partnerships.

This meeting is being held at a time when Africa is facing an infrastructure financing gap of more than $100 billion and is preparing to mobilize the $1.3 trillion needed to implement the Continental Power Systems Master Plan (CMP) with a view to creating a single electricity market in Africa by 2040.

The Program for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA) alone requires $16 billion per year to deliver transformative cross-border projects that will help realize the continent’s industrial, commercial and energy ambitions by 2030.

Through deal rooms and investment pitch sessions, African governments and institutions will present their infrastructure portfolios to potential investors, with the aim of securing financial commitments for regional corridors, power generation and transmission, logistics platforms and digital networks.

One of the central themes of the summit will be Africa’s ongoing quest for universal access to energy. Through the PIDA energy projects, the African Single Electricity Market (AfSEM) and the Continental Power Systems Master Plan, the summit will explore financing mechanisms to address energy access gaps for the more than 600 million Africans who do not have access to electricity.
