A new step was taken in economic cooperation between Algeria and the European Union with the launch, Tuesday in Algiers, of an institutional twinning program between the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency (AAPI) and the German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy.
Funded by the European Union, this eight-month project aims to exchange expertise and strengthen the capacities of the AAPI to support the attraction of investments and support the diversification of the national economy.
The agreement was signed by the Director General of AAPI, Omar Rekkache, the Ambassador of the European Union to Algeria, Diego Mellado Pascua, and the representative of the German ministry, Gerlind Heckmann, in the presence of representatives of several institutions, including the Algerian Economic Renewal Council (CREA) and the German Embassy. Designed in collaboration with several German organizations, notably the Trade and Investment Agency (GTAI), the Investment Bank of the Land of Brandenburg (ILB) and the GIZ, this program entitled “Strengthening the capacities of the AAPI” aims to improve the competitiveness of the Algerian economy and increase its attractiveness for investors, in accordance with the guidelines of the public authorities.
Through this twinning, AAPI will benefit from a transfer of expertise in the areas of targeting, attraction and support of investors, as well as the modernization of its promotional methods thanks to more innovative communication and market analysis techniques. The project also focuses on the digitization and automation of monitoring tools, in order to optimize the management of economic data and offer personalized support to investors.
For Omar Rekkache, this partnership constitutes
“an important milestone in the process of modernizing the AAPI and strengthening cooperation with European institutions”, fully in line with the national strategy aimed at improving the business climate and making investment a sustainable engine of growth. He also announced the preparation of another program focused on financial programming, still in partnership with the European Union. For his part, the EU ambassador to Algeria stressed that this project is part of the “Algeria-EU strategic partnership”, aimed at strengthening economic development and promoting productive investments based on technology transfer and the modernization of value chains.
The deputy head of mission at the German embassy, Anne-Sophie Leig, for her part, considered that this initiative reflects “the strength of the European partnership in supporting the reforms undertaken by Algeria”, recalling that Algerian-German relations are experiencing notable development in the areas of energy, industry and sustainable development.
