Recycling and recovery of waste

The Minister of Internal Trade and National Market Regulation, Amel Abdellatif, affirmed Thursday in Algiers that the recycling and waste recovery activity is experiencing notable expansion. “The number of companies operating in the waste recycling sector has increased to nearly 20,000 operators,” she said, during a lively press conference on Thursday, following the opening ceremony of the 9th edition of the International Exhibition for Waste Recovery and Valorization (Revade) at the Pins Maritimes Exhibition Center in Algiers, with the participation of around 100 exhibitors. Believing that this figure reflects the growth of this vital sector as well as its economic and organizational maturity.
The number of companies operating in this sector registered with the National Center for the Trade Register (Cnrc), said the minister, increased from 14,229 in 2020 to 19,469 today. Which reflects, she continued, the growing interest in this area. Noting that the increase in the number of operators active in the waste recycling sector is due to the adherence of the young generation to the circular economy, thanks to the facilities granted for the creation of Start-ups and micro-enterprises, as well as the efforts of the Ministries of Trade and the Environment, the National Agency for Support and Development of Entrepreneurship (Nesda) and the National Agency for the Management of Micro Credits (Angem).
But also, added Amel Abdellatif, the adaptation of activity codes linked to this area in the commercial register to meet the requirements of the circular economy and modern recycling processes which had also greatly contributed to this dynamic.
Noting that to reinforce this orientation, measures have been put in place in recent years, allowing tax exemptions to be granted to operators in the field of recyclable waste collection. “These are incentive measures aimed at encouraging investment in this sector and supporting the construction of a sustainable and balanced circular economy, reconciling environmental protection and economic development,” she added.
Returning to this edition of the International Exhibition for Waste Recovery and Valorization (Revade), the Minister of Internal Trade and National Market Regulation, stressed that it will promote the exchange of experiences and the development of projects linked to the circular economy. Hoping that it will lead to agreements capable of stimulating investment and encouraging innovation with a view to building a diversified, innovative, clean and sustainable economy.
Note that on the sidelines of this event, a cooperation agreement was signed between the Magros company and the National Waste Agency (AND), aiming to support the company in the collection and recycling of waste from fruit and vegetables in 9 regional wholesale markets under Magros, which will be transformed into high-value organic materials intended to support the agricultural sector and strengthen sustainable agriculture.
Placed under the slogan ”investing in the field of waste: an African vision”, this new edition reaffirms the commitment of the Algerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CACI) to supporting the circular economy and strengthening African cooperation in environmental management, indicated a press release from the CACI, organizer of the event, in collaboration with the National Waste Agency (AND).
