The United Nations General Assembly voted on Friday, a draft resolution approving the “New York Declaration” on the implementation of the two -state solution and the creation of an independent Palestinian State. Thus, 142 countries voted in favor of the resolution, 10 against and 12 abstained.
The “New York Declaration” argues in particular for the “end of the assault against Gaza” and a “just, peaceful and sustainable settlement of the Palestinian conflict, based on a real implementation of the two -state solution”.
From the perspective of a future ceasefire, it also evokes the deployment of a “temporary international stabilization mission” in Gaza, under the mandate of the UN Security Council, to protect the population, support the capacity building of the Palestinian State and provide “security guarantees”.
In a press release published by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Palestine State welcomed the significant efforts later to transform the “New York Declaration” into an effective action plan, accompanied by clear, economic, legal and security levels, calling for activating all the tools to end the Zionist occupation.
As a reminder, the “New York Declaration”, adopted at the end of July after the United Nations high -level conference on the peaceful regulation of the Palestinian issue and the implementation of the two -state solution, called for “collective practical measures” to end the Zionist aggression against Gaza, immediately lift the restrictions and open the passing points throughout the Gaza Strip.
Participants in the conference called on the Zionist entity to commit “publicly and clearly” in favor of a solution to two states, including a sovereign Palestinian State, to immediately end the violence of the colonists and to cease all colonization activities, land seizures and annexations in occupied Palestinian territories, including El-Quds is.
The New York Declaration also underlined the need to preserve the legal and historical status quo on the Islamic and Christian Holy Places of El-Quds and to undertake to adopt restrictive measures against extremist colonists and entities and individuals who support the colonies, in accordance with international law.
The Vice-President of the State of Palestine, Hussein Al-Sheikh, praised the adoption on Friday by the United Nations General Assembly (AGNU) of a draft resolution approving the “New York Declaration”, on the implementation of the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian State.
In a declaration, taken up by the Palestinian Press Agency, WAFA, Mr. Al-Sheikh indicated that this resolution “testifies to the international support for the rights of the Palestinian people and constitutes an important stage towards the end of the occupation and the creation of an independent Palestinian State in the borders of 1967, with Al-Quds-Est for capital”.
Al-Sheikh added that the growing international recognition of the Palestine State, “constitutes an essential foundation for the safeguarding of the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and the guarantee of the two-state solution, thus strengthening regional and international security and stability”.
