Algeria stands out as one of the most promising economic poles on the continent. The latest report from the Italian cabinet The European House – Ambrosetti (TEHA) indeed classifies the country among the three most attractive African economies, alongside Egypt and the Mauritius Islands. In detail, Algeria rose to 78ᵉ global place out of 146, according to the 2025 edition of the ” Global Attractiveness Index ‘(GAI), published recently. She won a rank compared to 2024 (79ᵉ) and improves her score at 30 points, against 27.6 last year. A modest but significant progression, which reflects, according to the authors of the report, the dynamism of an economy engaged in a transformation trajectory.
At the African scale, only three countries reach the so -called “average attractiveness” level (30 to 60 points), bringing together 63 economies worldwide. The rest of the continent remains exploded between countries with low attractiveness (67 states) and a reduced number of nations with high competitiveness: 4 countries in the “very attractive” category (80 to 100 points) and 12 in that called “good attractiveness” (60 to 80 points). This distinction illustrates, according to Teha, the efforts undertaken by Algiers to stimulate growth and strengthen its business environment. The report insists in particular on the dynamics of public and private investments as well as on the potential for economic diversification. “The Algerian economy is one of the most dynamic on the continent”, underlines the study, in reference to the reforms and the evolution of macro-
economic. On the international scene, the podium remains dominated by the great powers. The United States retains first place with a maximum score of 100 points, followed by China (87.7) and Germany (83.5). Singapore, in strong progression, moved to 4ᵉ row by exceeding the United Kingdom, while Japan maintains its 5ᵉ position. The “Global attractive index” is based on around fifty global indicators covering the flow of foreign direct investment, innovation, governance and human development. It aims to measure the ability of countries to attract resources, capital and talents, by combining economic performance and institutional framework. Founded in 1965, The European House – Ambrosetti is both a think tank and a strategy consulting firm recognized among the most influential in Europe. Installed in Italy, it brings together some 330 international experts and produced nearly 450 studies each year. It is also at the origin of several hundred major events, including the prestigious Cernobbio forum, considered as a essential place of reflection for global economic and political decision -makers. With this new ranking, Algeria comforts its place among African economies in the making. Recognition that supports the country’s ambitions to increase its attractiveness and strengthen the confidence of international investors in a context of regional and global transformations.
