Algeria has decided to end this Thursday at the rental of real estate from the Algerian State for the benefit of the French Embassy in Algeria. This was indicated by a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
On this occasion, two verbal notes were given to the business manager of the Embassy of the French Republic in Algeria who was summoned to the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs by the Director of Immunities and Privileges, specifies the same source.
“The first verbal note was intended to formally notify the denunciation by the Algerian party of the Algerian-French agreement of 2013 relating to the reciprocal exemption from visas for holders of diplomatic passports and service. This denunciation goes further than the simple suspension notified by the French part and definitively puts an end to the very existence of this agreement, ”added the press release.
“Consequently, and without prejudice to the deadlines provided in the agreement, the Algerian government has decided to submit, with immediate effect, the holders of diplomatic passports and French service to the visa obligation. It also reserves the right to submit the granting of these visas under the same conditions as those that the French government will stop for Algerian nationals. This is a strict application of the principle of reciprocity which expresses, above all, the rejection by Algeria of the French inclinations of provocation, intimidation and bargaining ”.*
The second verbal note aims, for its part, “to inform the French party of the decision of the Algerian authorities to end the provision, free of charge, of real estate belonging to the Algerian State for the benefit of the French Embassy in Algeria. This note also announces the re -examination of leases, considerably advantageous, contracted by the embassy with the OPGI of Algeria and invites the French part to dispatch a delegation to Algiers to start discussions on this subject, “said the press release.
“It should be recalled that the Algerian diplomatic representation in France has no advantage of this same nature. Consequently, the Algerian action thus decided also aims to introduce balance and reciprocity in the global Algerian-French relationship, ”concludes the same source.
