Algeria was unanimously elected on Tuesday as a member of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage for the 2024-2028 term, representing the Arab group, at the headquarters of the United Nations Educational Organization, science and culture (Unesco) in Paris, during the 10th General Assembly of the signatory States of the Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage, in the presence of representatives of 178 countries, indicates a press release from the Ministry of Culture and Arts. This choice “denotes the confidence of the international community in Algeria and its serious national policy for the safeguarding, promotion and development of its rich intangible cultural heritage”, stressing that “the election of Algeria within this committee constitutes the crowning achievement of its efforts in favor of intangible cultural heritage. It also embodies its leadership in cultural heritage at the global level and the active presence of our country in the defense of the elements of our intangible cultural heritage within UNESCO, where many elements and manifestations of this heritage have been registered on the lists of the organization. The press release recalled that the election of Algeria as a member of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage, “takes place within the framework of the work of the 10th session of the General Assembly of the signatory States of the Convention for the safeguarding of intangible heritage, during which the members of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Heritage were elected for a term of 4 years.
