L’Algérie signe le Traité à Genève – Le Jeune Indépendant

Algeria signed in Geneva the final communiqué of the Diplomatic Conference and the Treaty on intellectual property relating to genetic resources and associated traditional knowledge.

The signing took place during a ceremony organized Friday in Geneva by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

In a closing speech, the head of the Algerian delegation, the ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva, Mr. Rachid Bladehane, said that the adoption of this binding Treaty constituted a palpable step forward. in strengthening

of the international legal framework for the protection of genetic resources and associated traditional knowledge, but also contributed to the promotion of the patent system by guaranteeing its transparency and balance, in the service of sustainable development objectives.

It should be remembered that the Algerian delegation played an important role in the process of

e negotiations which lasted more than 24 years, by coordinating the African group and hosting in June 2023 in Algiers the regional meeting of African countries, having allowed a unified African position to be taken on the clauses of this important international treaty.
