The independent national authority for audiovisual regulation (Anira) expressed, this Saturday evening, its categorical rejection of the practices of certain television channels in their coverage of the accident, calling for respect for dignity, privacy and professional ethics without exploitation of pain.

According to authority, these practices have “thus transformed tragedy into a sensation and haggling that used to exploit human pain, in order to increase the audience and the interaction indicators on social networks”.
Considering that this approach constitutes “a blatant attack on human dignity and privacy, as well as a manifest breach of the requirements of the profession, the authority recalls the provisions of law 23-20 relating to audiovisual activity, as well as the executive decree 24-250 fixing the provisions of the general specifications taxable to the audiovisual communication services, which prohibit any attack on the dignity of people and their private Any exploitation of human suffering “, and require” to take precautionary measures during the dissemination of shocking scenes “.
In this context, the Anira calls once again all the editors “to concentrate their efforts on field reports and in -depth journalistic surveys on the circumstances of the accident, to carefully verify the information, to protect proven people and to respect medical spaces, far from the sensational and mediocrity, because freedom of the press is a responsibility and the authority will be intransigent with any violation of any violation of the dignity citizen and the reputation of the profession ”.
The Anira spoke of the appeal launched by certain organizations in favor of the development of a national professional deontology charter, claiming that “in accordance with the prerogatives conferred on it by law in matters of regulation, control and consultation, and while welcoming the role of trade union organizations in the defense of the rights of journalists, it recalls that the development, adoption and monitoring of the national deontology charter legally competent mechanisms and bodies ”.
In this sense, she considered that “the call to a national charter outside of these executives constitutes an overtaking prerogatives”, stressing that “it will remain open to any legally founded initiative and contributing to the promotion of professional ethics”.
Following these observations made by the authority, the latter decided to suspend four establishments operating the audiovisual communication service, namely El Bilad TV, El Wataniya TV, El Hayat TV and Echourouk TV of diffusion from 22:30 of this day, and for a duration of 48 hours consecutive.
The suspension concerns “both satellite broadcasting and live digital broadcasting, with a ban on downloading or publishing any new content on digital platforms during the suspension period, and obligation to do immediate withdrawal of all content in violation of sites, social platforms and affiliated digital channels”, underlines the same source.
The Anira also asked the Public Television Establishment of TV (ADD) the immediate execution of the temporary suspension decision, by stopping the broadcasting of the television channels concerned on all the media and networks it manages, from the notified time and for a period of 48 hours.
