Le barrage Taksebt affiche un volume d’eau de 75 millions de m3

The Taksebt dam has a water volume of 75 million m3

Tizi Ouzou

Reassuring news comes from the Taksebt dam, in the wilaya of Tizi-Ouzou. According to university researcher Malek Abdeslam, the dam has a water volume of 75 million m3 in June 2024, a level higher than that of 2022 and 2023 at the same period. This situation is all the more encouraging as water consumption during the month of May was relatively high, reaching 8 million m3 per month. Despite this consumption, the level of the dam has fallen by only two meters, which suggests that the reserves will hold up well for the months to come.
According to Mr. Abdeslam, whose remarks were made the day before Eid El-Adha and reported this Thursday by the newspaper L’Expression, if water consumption remains at the current rate of 8 to 10 million m3 per month, the dam’s reserves should be sufficient to ensure the distribution of drinking water to populations until the beginning of December 2024, i.e. over a period of six to seven months.
It is important to note that the 10 million m3 of “dead volume” of the dam cannot be exploited. This reserve makes it possible to preserve the stability of the dike and avoid any risk of rupture.
