Le CELA appelle à une réforme – Le Jeune Indépendant

The council of teachers of the Lycées of Algeria (this) sounds the alarm on the state of the public school and calls for deep educational reforms. He claims to place the quality of teaching at the heart of his debates, especially those he had during his 7ᵉ summer university, organized last July in El Kala (Skikda). This was indicated by the union in a statement.

For this, the priority is clear: to engage the reform of secondary education before that of the baccalaureate. Teachers believe that a precise diagnosis of the student level is essential, as well as the establishment of rigorous criteria for the transition to the upper class. They also demand the strengthening of the educational authority in order to ensure a more credible and equitable assessment.

Participants in the summer university pointed out “artificially high success rates” in the baccalaureate, which they say, a real decrease in level. The this proposes to establish clear and uniform standards on a national scale, in order to guarantee the quality of diplomas and to restore to public school its formative role.

If educational questions were at the center of exchanges, this also denounced pressures and sanctions targeting certain unionized teachers, as well as the difficulties linked to the mobility of staff and the deterioration of purchasing power, all factors that impact the quality of education.

For this, “saving public school involves collective awareness and structural reforms of the education system”. The union invites all teachers to participate in training, to actively get involved in union actions and remain united in the face of challenges that threaten their rights and the future of education.

During the five days of the summer university, teachers and union activists from several wilayas discussed the major challenges of the sector, whose laws that do not approve, the non-application of the particular status, blockages in the reform of the compensation system, the precariousness of teaching conditions and the decline in the educational level.

Furthermore, the situation in Gaza has occupied an important place in the discussions, with an appeal to support the Palestinian people by all possible means and participate in solidarity actions aimed at putting an end to the “inhuman barbarism” denounced by the union.
