The chief of staff of the Indian Army, General Upendra Dwivedi, arrived this Sunday in Algiers for an official three-day visit, which is part of the strengthening of bilateral relations between the two armies.
The discussions will focus on the means of consolidating military cooperation between India and Algeria, in particular through the expansion of training in terms of training, capacity building and the implementation of new perspectives of technical exchanges.

General Dwivedi will be trained with his Algerian counterpart, Saïd Chengriha, the two officials will have an exchange of views on regional and international security challenges.
This visit followed that made in February 2025 by the Army General Said Chengriha in India. During this trip, the chief of staff of the National People’s Army (ANP) had met the highest Indian military officials, including the defense staff chief, General Anil Chauhan, and General Upendra Dwivedi himself.
During his stay, General Chengriha had visited several strategic industrial sites, including the Goa Shipyard Limited shipyard (GSL), specializing in the construction of military ships, as well as Bharat Forge Limited and Larsen & Toubro companies, leaders in the production of armored vehicles, air defense systems and advanced technologies. He had also taken part in the International Military Salon Aero India 2025, as well as in the Conclave of Defense Ministers, where he had pleaded for a strengthening of multilateral cooperation in the face of new world security challenges.
Expansion cooperation
These reciprocal visits reflect a common desire to deepen military cooperation between Algeria and India. The two countries recently signed a memorandum of understanding covering several areas, including; The training of officers and the exchange of expertise, the sharing of strategic and operational information, the co -production and the transfer of military technology, the organization of joint exercises, in particular in the naval and air fields, and the establishment of military cooperation offices within the respective embassies.
Beyond the strictly military aspect, this cooperation illustrates an Algerian will to diversify its strategic partnerships, traditionally turned towards Russia, and an Indian ambition to expand its influence in North Africa and the Mediterranean.
General Dwivedi’s visit to Algiers therefore consolidates the achievements of last February and open up new perspectives in the Defense field. It confirms that Algeria and India intend to register their military cooperation in a sustainable dynamic, based on the sharing of expertise, technological innovation and a common vision of regional and international security.
