On September 27 and 28, 2025, Villepinte will be in the colors of Algeria. The Jacques Brel room, located at Espace V Roger-Lefort in France, will house the first edition of the Algerian couscous festival, a culinary and cultural event which aims to become an essential annual meeting. The event is organized by the Rayon Rose association, chaired by Ms. Hakima Cadin, with the support of the town hall.
This project is part of an approach that goes beyond the simple gastronomic framework. Couscous, a popular dish par excellence, is here erected as a symbol of conviviality, sharing and cultural identity. Through this festival, it is not only a question of valuing an ancestral culinary tradition, but also of weaving bridges between communities and of strengthening the links between France and Algeria, this is what a press release from the organizers indicated.
For two days, visitors will have the opportunity to discover the richness and diversity of Algerian couscous, through presentations of regional varieties and specific revenues. The highlight will undoubtedly be the competition for the best Algerian couscous, which will compete with enthusiasts and professionals who have come to share their know-how. The winners will be rewarded with prizes and trophies, in a friendly atmosphere.
Beyond the competition, the festival will offer practical workshops and culinary demonstrations, allowing the public to better understand the preparation techniques and the subtleties of the ingredients used. Handicraft stands will enrich the event, with grocery store, pottery, traditional objects, as well as musical and dancing animations that will plunge visitors into the heart of Algerian culture. Catering areas will be converted to offer the possibility of enjoying different regional specialties, in a spirit of celebration and discovery.
To accommodate an expected public, the Jacques Brel room was made available by the town hall of Villepinte. With a capacity of 500 people per day, it is a place perfectly suited to a manifestation of this scale. With modular spaces, practical parking and accessibility for people with reduced mobility, it meets the logistical and organizational needs necessary to guarantee the comfort of visitors and exhibitors.
The Algerian couscous festival is not limited to a cultural showcase. It is part of a process of economic and tourist development. By valuing craftsmen, traders and local producers, it helps to energize the local economy. For the organizers, it is also a question of positioning Algeria as a full -fledged culinary and tourist destination, by highlighting its gastronomic heritage, recognized by UNESCO as an intangible heritage of humanity.
The event also aims to promote a positive image of Algeria, by emphasizing its traditions of generosity, reception and creativity. This valuation approach also contributes to the strengthening of links between diasporas and host countries, by creating spaces of dialogue and meeting around a universally appreciated dish, the press release further.
For Ms. Hakima Cadin, president of the organizing association, this festival is “a showcase of Algerian know-how, but also a space for meeting between cultures and generations”. The objective is to make this first edition the starting point of a series of annual meetings which will be up to time.
The success of the event is based on the involvement of local actors, associations, craftsmen and communities. All are called to contribute so that this festival is not only a culinary party, but also a platform for intercultural meetings, community solidarity and cultural influence.
This first edition is intended to be a milestone, announcing other future events, where gastronomy, crafts and culture will continue to be celebrated as vectors of identity and openness.
