The vocational training and education sector is currently establishing itself as a major player in the national development strategy, by combining the qualification of young people, innovation and economic integration. This was indicated last Thursday by Nassima Arhab, the minister of the sector, during an inspection and working visit to the wilaya of Skikda.
Ms. Arhab affirmed, on this occasion, that vocational training today occupies “a strategic place in national development policy”, contributing both to the adaptation of skills to economic needs and to the fight against unemployment. The minister also recalled that her department is working to “strengthen the link between training and the real economy” by placing emphasis on promising professions and sectors with high growth potential.
She stressed that this orientation is fully in line with the vision of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, aiming to “make vocational training a driver of the productive economy”. Affirming that “vocational training and education play a determining role in the creation of wealth, the promotion of entrepreneurship and the sustainable integration of young people”, she assured that the sector is committed to modernizing its programs and promoting learning through practice and innovation.
Furthermore, Ms. Arhab stressed that “the wilaya of Skikda has strong agricultural and tourist potential”, which requires “a qualified workforce capable of meeting the needs of these two key sectors”. She affirmed that graduates of the vocational training system, thanks to their technical and specialized skills, “are called upon to support local economic dynamics and support the development of businesses established in the region”. The minister thus noted the importance of supporting apprentices and trainees after their training in order to guarantee their professional integration, explaining that “our mission does not stop at the issuance of the diploma, but continues until real integration into the labor market”.
During her visit, the minister inaugurated a professional training and apprenticeship center in Zerdaza, named after Shahid Amar Laâdassi. Built on an area of 6,500 m² for a total cost of 250 million dinars, the establishment includes eight classrooms, six workshops, twelve administrative offices, as well as a 60-bed residence, a refectory and an equipped club.
The center offers several specialties such as sewing, cooking, hairdressing and aesthetics, construction and agriculture. During her visit to the sewing workshop, Ms. Arhab asked the teaching team to integrate a complementary training module in e-commerce, emphasizing the importance of equipping trainees with digital skills allowing them to promote and sell their products online. She declared that “our young people, particularly women, must master digital tools to promote their know-how and earn a sustainable income.”
Continuing her tour, the minister visited the construction site of the National Specialized Vocational Training Institute, with a capacity of 300 teaching places and 120 beds. The project, costing 660 million dinars, should be operational at the start of the professional school year in February 2026. Ms. Arhab also inspected the National Specialized Tourism Training Institute of Filfila as well as the National Specialized Institute of the urban center of Bouzaaroura, stressing that these structures “reflect the State’s desire to modernize the training map and adapt the offer to the concrete needs of the labor market.”
At the end of her visit, the minister attended a presentation on the situation of the sector in the wilaya, which has 25 training establishments, including four specialized national institutes. She praised the efforts made by local executives and encouraged the consolidation of partnerships between training establishments and economic players to promote the employability of young people. Ms. Arhab recalled that the ambition of her department is to make professional training a pillar of sustainable development, capable of driving the growth of territories and offering young people real prospects for the future.
