For the start of the school year 2025-2026, the Ministry of National Education sets the bar. Strengthening infrastructure, massive integration of teachers and school health initiatives throughout the territory, the first manager of the sector, Mohamed Seghir Saâdaoui, confirms his ambition to make each establishment a space of excellence and protection for students.
Saâdaoui gave, this Sunday, the official start of the start of the 2025-2026 school year at the Flici Seghir primary school in Algiers, in the presence of the Minister of Health, Mohamed Seddik Aït Messaoudene. He indicated that the education sector now has “30,000 schools that welcome a total of 12 million students spread over the three levels of education”, during the press conference organized on the sidelines of the launching ceremony.
On this occasion, he said: “School health is one of the major priorities of his department. “And to add:” Ensuring the protection of the physical, mental and educational integrity of students constitutes a sacred duty. “Affirming:” Educational success cannot be conceived without a healthy and secure school framework. He called all the actors, families, local authorities and associations to mobilize alongside the ministry to guarantee the well-being of the students. He also explained that “awareness activities are adapted to each educational level in order to promote balanced nutrition, sports and healthy behaviors”.
In detail, primary school students are initiated into balanced nutrition, the importance of physical activity and good lifestyle. College benefit from awareness of mental and physical health, as well as to dangers related to addictions and excessive use of screens. In high school, interactive workshops led by health professionals approach mental health, physical health, sport and risks related to drug use.
Innovation is also at the center of educational strategy. The Minister recalled the launch of the national competition for school innovation, offering students the opportunity to develop their creativity and their entrepreneurial projects. The selected work will be supported by teachers and will be able to evolve towards real entrepreneurial initiatives. At the same time, scientific and sports disciplines are encouraged in order to train students that are both competent, graduates and committed.
In addition, during his intervention, Saâdaoui presented the quantified landmarks which illustrate the extent of the efforts made for this school year. “464 new school structures have been received, including 272 primary schools, 132 colleges and 60 high schools,” said the minister. He added that “the national program provides for the construction of 600 new classrooms as well as the launch of 196 colleges and 70 high schools”, in order to meet the continuous growth of the school population and to improve teaching conditions throughout the territory.
The Minister also noted the importance of guaranteeing the availability of textbooks. Affirming that “the National Office for School Publications has signed agreements with private bookstores so that books are sold at approved prices”. This is to ensure equitable access to educational resources and to prevent speculation. In addition, three new digital services will be deployed this year to improve school health management, monitoring school sport and the collection of stakeholders’ opinions. Mohamed Saâdaoui said that “these tools will modernize the education system and guarantee better transparency and efficiency in programs management”.
Recruitment competition for 45,000 teachers
In addition, the first manager of the sector highlighted the strengthening of the teaching staff, recalling the decision of the President of the Republic to “integrate 82,410 contractual teachers in permanent positions”. He stressed that a digital platform has been set up to facilitate the management of new contracts and simplify administrative procedures. He also announced that “recruitment competitions will be organized soon in order to provide vacancies and guarantee the quality of educational supervision”. These competitions concern in particular university graduates and future teachers from the higher schools of teachers, including “32,000 baccalaureate winners were recently registered to train in the teaching profession”.
In terms of future recruitment, the Minister said that the sector will need 45,000 jobs for teachers and 24,000 for other administrative and technical functions. A recruitment procedure by competition will be organized by guaranteeing transparency and equity, in accordance with the regulations of the public service. Teachers currently contractual will have the opportunity to participate in these competitions and obtain a permanent position.
The Minister concluded his intervention by recalling the essential role of all the actors in the success of this school year, arguing that “it is essential to disseminate reliable and official information so that the population and families have exact and verified data on the measures and programs of the education sector”.
With these initiatives, the start of the school year 2025-2026 presents itself as a “strategic departure”, combining strengthening of infrastructure, increased teacher workforce, health integration and educational innovations. The objective is to provide students with a learning framework “modern, safe and conducive to excellence”, in order to prepare youth to become a responsible, educated and innovative generation, capable of actively contributing to the development of the country.
